Perculiar ad

Perhaps it is me but wondered if anyone had seen a new ad by M....S..........(not sure if I am able to say the name but it is a big insurance company). It involves a large group of men dressed in shorts and another or builders gyrating and slapping each other on the bumbottom. I don't think I have seen such an odd ad for a long time, and I can't see what it has to do with selling insurance.

Perhaps it's the subject matter. I can't stand that Go Compare singer with the twirly moustache.

I find it so obnoxious I have to close my eyes whilst switching to another programme. Therefore I have no idea who the advertiser is! So their theory that its good for their business doesnt necessarily apply.

I was thinking its a well edited Ad with a ladies bottom on a slim guy. Weird never the less. Don't like it.

DH and I don't like ads, so if we watch a programme live, we mute the picture and try to guess what they are advertising. Try it, it is so much fun...

I dislike this ad so much that as soon as it comes on the TV I switch channels. But, yes I do think it's an 'Abe' thing. My daughter thinks it's hilarious.

It is (to me at least) one of those adverts that are memorable, but you can't remember what they are advertising. Personally I loathe it.

tiredoldwoman Fri 16-Sept-16 05:23:50

It's a cringey ad but I wish I had legs like The Strutters !

Bez1989 Thu 15-Sept-16 23:39:59

The programmes we like on commercial TV are recorded on our Virgin box....
So we can whizz through the adverts !
I recommend it folks !

I absolutely love the advert as it makes me laugh, but my Partner hates it.
My Sister told me a while ago that the Guy who is the main character in the hot pants and high heels, has had implants in his buttocks. She said that he was interviewed on a TV programme whereby he told the interviewer about it.
Obviously when this Man asks "Does my bum look big in this?", he will be over the moon with a resounding YES !!!!!!!!!

confused Really?

Caretaker Thu 15-Sept-16 21:18:51

I think a lot of adverts are written by people who are on 'something'.

Sheilasue Thu 15-Sept-16 21:04:31

Yes I hate it too really annoys me.

citygranny Thu 15-Sept-16 20:05:55

Glad i'm not the only one that finds that man scary, he is just so creepy !

Badenkate Thu 15-Sept-16 19:10:16

Well it would do if I actually remembered what it was advertising!

Spangles1963 Thu 15-Sept-16 17:23:01

Well whichever way you look at hit,MS have struck gold by making this advert. So many people are talking about it.

Legs55 Thu 15-Sept-16 15:50:54

I agree with many of you who find the advert creepy & disturbing - don't use comparison sites anyway so no advert is going to induce me to use them.

I either turn to laptop & read emails or go on Facebook, go into kitchen & make a brew, have a comfort break grin or some little job that means I don't miss my programme.

I find most adverts don't convey the product well - few more hates "one sheet", Cilit Bang, go compare, car adverts, insurance adverts, PPI Claims etc in fact there are few adverts I actually like & they usually are for cats/dogs - Sheba, Dreamies etc hmm

Badenkate Thu 15-Sept-16 15:18:13

It doesn't offend me Swimhome, but like several others on here somehow I find it creepy. I accept it's not aimed at us but saying 'you have an off switch when it's an advert in the middle of something you are watching is faintly ridiculous.
Actually it is interesting to know what it is that disturbs me - it's not the builder part, I've always found that quite sweet, but the main strutter seems agressive and threatening.

SwimHome Thu 15-Sept-16 15:01:06

My goodness - it's a parody and you're taking it so seriously! It's mildly funny, meant to be stupidly outrageous, and you've got an off switch if it really offends you though I can't for the life of me see why it should. Can anyone say why it offends them so much?

sweetcakes Thu 15-Sept-16 14:57:29

The lady that falls of a chair with a dab of yogurt is Nicole Scherzinger off X factor and she's advertising muller yogurt. The lead dancer of the strutters is a American and those Buns!! are implants.

Nelliemaggs Thu 15-Sept-16 14:45:30

I think the twirking chap is funny but I had no clue until I read it here what it is advertising. My real hates are all the patronising, often misleading and insulting ads aimed at retirees. Not fond of the operatic singer with the moustache either but I'm not keen on facial hair so perhaps that is why.

angsw Thu 15-Sept-16 14:18:16

I was just talking to my DH last night about that advert. We both dislike it, me most intensely.

There is something repulsive about the guy in short and high heels. It seems wrong and dirty somehow in some hard to define way.

Christinefrance Thu 15-Sept-16 12:49:29

Yes the Audrey Hepburn one is boring now . Think however much we dislike the Strutters & Builders
( great title ) we are all talking about it. The dog dating one is great that whole series of ads has been good.

Bellanonna Thu 15-Sept-16 12:41:22

Lupin fully agree. That's my most hated ad. I can pick up the iPad in ad breaks and leave them on, blocking them out, but somehow thst one breaks through and I have to silence his patronising voice. Also dislike the Audrey Hepburn lookalike ad for chocolate as I've seen it too often.

Coolgran65 Thu 15-Sept-16 12:18:39

Strutters & Builders ad --- it gives me the creeps. Can't explain it, I know it's meant to be fun but it makes me feel very uncomfortable.

GrannyO Thu 15-Sept-16 12:08:54

Hate that ad, wouldn't buy anything from that company, ever.
