Perculiar ad

Perhaps it is me but wondered if anyone had seen a new ad by M....S..........(not sure if I am able to say the name but it is a big insurance company). It involves a large group of men dressed in shorts and another or builders gyrating and slapping each other on the bumbottom. I don't think I have seen such an odd ad for a long time, and I can't see what it has to do with selling insurance.

The money one is a gross advert - but fascinatingly gross.
The ad that annoys me most is the smug and contemptuous tone of the man who advertises for PPI help. It's that implied assumption of how stupid we all are.

I LOVE that ad. I replay it when it comes on - mind you I love the music on it too. I'm sure the bum must be padded but he has great legs. It's just a bit of fun. I don't see ads very often as we record commercial & whiz through the ads but if I see that one whizzing past I stop & watch it.

I absolutely hate that advert. It is ridiculous. Would not make me buy anything at all. I love the dog dating advert where the poodle girlfriend turns up and then you see lots of puppies heading for the back door.

i do like the strutters and builders advert - mind you i liked them before they joined together!
there is a website on which you can have either the strutter or the builder dancing in your street! you just type in your postcode and there they are .......... outside your door.
i did this with the strutter yesterday and my grandaughter wanted to look outside the front door to see if she could see him in real life ............. both grandaughters and my daughter too like the ad.
and i like the go compare one as well.
however if i've recorded a programme [as i do with most of what i watch] i always fast forward through the adverts [apart from the strutters and builders one and the opera singer too].
car adverts are a blur and i don't watch the yoghurt thingy one either - too annoying.

It certainly turned me off even looking at M S when I renewed my insurances, can't honestly see the point of it.

Hi, I think Eloethan is right, it's definitely a parody and send up of stereo typical sexist images of females gyrating to music. It's meant solely for us to love/hate but especially to remember. The add works, simply because it's annoying and some people want to see how it will develop. It's not my kind of thing - but it and the music is memorable, and that's their goal, to grab your attention.

I rather like the singer with the long moustache in the Go Compare ads. There's an assistant in our local Lidl's with a similar moustache (not quite as long) and he gets a lot of admiring remarks!

I know just how you feel, it was the comparison to Paul Newman that always got in my way. People would say if only you looked like Paul Newman ---

DanniRae Wed 14-Sept-16 14:26:15

You know I was joking I hope? grin

DanniRae Wed 14-Sept-16 08:30:44

Yes LullyDully I had the same problem when I tried to make it as an actress because I look just like Jennifer Anistan!! wink

LullyDully Wed 14-Sept-16 07:53:48

Only just got back here. I meant Nicholas Cage Danni but mistyped. He has more.life in him than N Cage however, but is the spitting image. I had a friend who was an aspiring actor in the 1970, he swore that Robert Powell had wrecked his career as.they looked so.similar!!! Not so sure.

LullyDully Tue 13-Sept-16 22:38:39

Yes Danni I did mean Nicholas Cage. That's what I wrote before stupid!!!! spell check. The man on the kitchen paper ad is the spitting image of him, but a better actor maybe and smiles more. Still irritating however.

DanniRae Sat 10-Sept-16 16:23:14

Ta Anya but I think I'll have to turn down your offer. Anyway he's married to Michelle Keagan (ex Cori actor) and she's as beautiful as he is handsome.

How DO I know all this stuff? I should get out more, eh?

NanSue Sat 10-Sept-16 14:58:40

I mean the Money Supermarket ones.

NanSue Sat 10-Sept-16 14:57:23

Oh dear! I think those ads are funny. They make me smile every time they're on. Does that make me a wrongun? (As DD would say)

Anya Sat 10-Sept-16 14:31:13

Thanks Danni yes, he does seem to love himself, however I'll let you have him, I prefer my men with more brain than muscle wink

DanniRae Sat 10-Sept-16 09:38:51

He's Mark Wright from The Only Way Is Essex Anya. I think he's very good looking (mind you so does he!)

Anya Sat 10-Sept-16 09:22:37

Can someone tell me who that total plonker is in the Oykos advert? He has an inane grin, stubble and a six-pack and must be some 'celebrity' as people can have their photo in his advert.

DanniRae Sat 10-Sept-16 08:37:04

Do you mean Nicholas Cage LullyDully?

Can I do a favourite ever advert? The one where a couple are viewing different dogs in a rescue centre and when they get to a darling little one sitting next to his suitcase he (the dog) turns on a video of him doing lots of household chores to get them to adopt him. BUT don't know what it's for!

LullyDully Sat 10-Sept-16 08:19:29

Surely the one sheet man is dressed up as Nicholas Crane.
I particularly dislike the wooden boy who wants the washing up bottle for a rocket and the one who investigates the tuna bake left on the dishes..........mindless.
I rarely remember what they advertises.

AlieOxon Sat 10-Sept-16 03:30:07

The one with the boy in school whose father suddenly appears, just creeps me out.

M0nica Fri 09-Sept-16 16:21:47

No idea who or what it advertises, so it is counterproductive where I am concerned. if it comes on, I switch over to another programme. It is just stupid.

cazzajen Thu 08-Sept-16 17:33:07

I HATE the cilic bang advert! AND the one sheet one (man dressed as a Mexican using one sheet of paper towel to clean up stuff?

gettingonabit Thu 08-Sept-16 12:50:07

Money supermarket, I think.

lilihu Thu 08-Sept-16 12:36:25

Horrible, tasteless, inexplicable, gross..... Can you tell I really don't like it???
Also have no idea what it's advertising as I can't face looking at after the first time.
My husband switches sound down and groans whenever it comes on.
Like others have said, I somehow feel personally offended by it. I would definitely not use this company on principle----if I ever found out what it was!!!
