BBQs

Much more sensible than the oven in summer. We do whole ducks, chickens, legs of lamb etc and much much more. OH lived abroad for several years hence his skill in outdoor cooking. We also have an outdoor electric plate often used in tandem with the charcoal BBQ when it's full. We even had a BBQ last Christmas Day although we did demolish the spoils indoors.

We cheat and have a gas bbq.
Unfortunately it hasn't been out this year.
Summer was here while we were on hols in May and it has pretty much rained since.

I would love to have a bbq but I've got no one to have one with DD does not like them nor does partner, did would like one but its just a hassle with two oh us. I may get a small disposable one if I take her out but its getting late in the year now.

I love bbq's and it's easy to cook almost anything on one. Our eyes were opened to the possibilities when we were in Australia a few years ago, so it's not just sausages and burgers for us these days.

We had a bbq tonight actually since it felt a shame to waste the good weather in this pretty dismal summer.

No washing up either apart from the plates ... we soak the grill and put it into the dishwasher on the next wash. Perfect!

This year we swapped the barbecue for the pizza oven Aldi were selling. In spite of DH's mutterings it's been used several times and makes brilliant pizzas. If you leave it to cool down (It heats to 400 degrees) it will also cook normal barbecue stuff. I get firelighters from the garden centre so there's no petroly smell when we light it. Just add wine!

Lighten up some of you. You sound like a load of old cumdgeons! Barbecuing isn't all about burnt sausages and raw chicken drumsticks. OH used to barbecue, but latterly I always did it...with much better results I have to say..Skewered prawns Malaysian style, lamb koftas with pittas, spatchcock chicken, satay chicken ..... loads of complimentary salads eaten in the garden, under a shady tree or a parasol, washed down with wine, beers, or cordial. Perfick!!!
Washing up?...... no greasy roasting tin, pots and pans. What's not to like?

My ds is a keen cook and has a great BBQ which cooks three chickens on a spit at the same time. It has a lid so not much smell, but the chickens are delicious and he usually gives me one of them!

I quite like a BBQ as long as someone else is doing it. When I was at work, a while ago now, we used to have an annual BBQ under the guise of team building. Basically a load of c..p but generally more enjoyable than being in the office and the food was good. My only gripe about them is sometimes neighbours seem to light them with evil smelling stuff and we have to go round shutting the windows because of the pong.

Cleaning a BBQ isn't my job.

It's a bloke thing to do and they get to clean it.

Since I'm single I'd rather poke sharp sticks in my eyes than have one )

Maybe Jingles is the same.

Another pleb here jings! I'm almost to say we have 2. A smaller one for the two of us and a larger one for when the other plebs join us. Sometimes, if there are loads of us, we use both bbqs. I think they come into their own when it's too to cook indoors

I must be a pleb then LOL admit ours is only a small one but there's only one grill to wash afterwards, oh and the tongy things, the fire burns down to nothing what's the problem ?

Well I wouldn't exactly say that Jiglbellsfrock. I don't think they stink, they smell lovely. I just wouldn't want the aftermath. Far easier to put the stuff in the oven.

Why not enjoy the good weather while they can. Cleaning the bbq doesn't take any longer than washing up pots and pans. A decent cook won't burn the food unless he / cooks it the flames rather that just the heat from the fuel and surely one would check meat is cooked just as you would indoors.

What a shame you don't enjoy being out in your garden I wonder why? I spend more time outside than in during the Summer sometimes pottering and sometimes just sitting chatting, eating, reading or just being. I find it very uplifting and peaceful. Its only the grill shelf that needs cleaning and if its done pretty soon after using it doesn't take long.
So many people long for outside space it seems a shame to waste what you have. Sorry its only my opinion of course you may have excellent reasons for not using it.

Why not? Because they stink and spoil other people's enjoyment of their summer gardens!

Barbecues are for plebs.

I have no idea why people have BBQ's anyway, It takes the whole day to clean the fecker after use. I got one and kept saying I'd clean it, nah I dumped it instead.

I would love a BBQ but with just 2 of us it seems pointless making all that cleaning - we never even sit in the garden either let alone eat out there

BBQs always seem such a faff to me, especially when done by the men! I would much rather cook the food indoors and then eat it outside, safe in the knowledge that the meat is done all the way through.

My son does a wonderful barbecue and I absolutely love barbecued food. The smell of one has me drooling. (Unfortunately, DH is not a fan of outdoor cooking so we don't have them). When the weather is good, why not?

It'll stop soon anyway, their barbecue will be rained off.

I agree caretaker! I've never seen the point of cooking actually outside. No reason why not take food outside if you want to eat it there but cook it? No thanks. I've never enjoyed a BBQ yet despite SiLs very best efforts bless him.

What don't you understand? The weather is ideal for BBQs.

An expensive kitchen will be around for a while but the sunshine won't be!

Perhaps they are just taking advantage of the Summer to eat outside, I enjoy a well cooked BBQ now and then. There is usually one or other of our neighbours enjoying a BBQ at some time most weekends.
