That's just a tad embarrassing!

Oh if only DH had that recall of items stashed away! Just the other day he came home with another bottle of sugar soap for some decorating preparations..we had 3 in the shed!!

A few months back the rear bulb went on the reversing lights on my car. When I got home DH said he thought he had one in the garage so I left him to it. When he came in he said " All sorted, I knew that would come in handy one day"

It was a bulb from an old Cortina we had in 1974!!, and that bulb had moved house with us 5 times over the years

We moved 5 years ago and had similar collections and discoveries. My DH hates getting rid of books but I insisted we sift through the few 100s we had. We discovered at least 40 double copies (same editions) and we did get rid of boxfuls..as yet we have not missed them!! We are trying hard not to re collect stuff. We do not use the loft but do have a large store shed and a potting shed which both seem to be filling up with alarming speed!

I found a favourite ring of mine after 5 years when prior to moving I defrosted freezer in garage....my hands were aways delving in and out and I guess it ended up in a block of ice in the bottom! It was a great feeling, having missed it and forgotten all about it. On the same move, removals guy was taking out cooker and was going to dump it as I didn't need it for the next property! He pointed out to me the chipolata still attached to the furry back of the cooker and said " I think I'll pass on the sausages Mrs" ! Oh the ignominy of it !

It was over 40 yrs ago cayuga so I doubt it is in the fridge. Thanks for the suggestion though

BBBevan. My sister lost her engagement ring in our kitchen. It turned up in the fridge attached to the bottom of a bag of mushrooms! The bag must have been put down on top of the ring. Look in your fridge!

Interesting, wilygran saying have you checked the freezer because that's exactly where I found my ring that I had lost months previously. I am guessing it was because your fingers kind of shrink with the cold when you are ferreting about in there.

I lost a precious little earring that my DG had given me, bought with his own pocket money. I hunted for it everywhere, subconsciously looking for it wherever I went. At Christmas time, I got out the tiny artificial tree that sits on the sideboard, and there was the earring, dangling on a branch like a bauble.

I lost a lovely silver ring my dh bought me, years later I replanted the spot at the base of a standing stone and buried in the soil was my ring, I always took off my gardening gloves and put them on top of the stone.

Tegan, if only, I have emptied bags, looked in pockets, gone through jewellery box. I remember picking my rings up off the coffee table in the living room and walking through into the kitchen and thinking 'I am not putting these on but in an unusual place because I am suddenly beset by DGC wanting breakfast and I do not want DGC touching them, I will remember.', but I didn't.

I have some postcards in my drawer that I bought in 1980.

MOnica; could they be in your handbag? I'm doing this more and more [losing things]. I lost the S.O.'s spare car key at my sons wedding and found I'd just thrown them into a shopping bag full of bits and bobs. I felt awful at losing them .

Kitty - I have drawers, cupboards & boxes full of the sort of stuff you mention! Plus there are boxes in garage that have not been opened since they were put there the day we moved into this house in 1992!
DH is a hoarder! We started tidying out a large cupboard in spare bedroom last weekend & had to give up when so much stuff had gone to the dump they suspected he was a dealer or something & asked him for
identification. I will sneak some down myself this weekend.
The cupboard is still more than half full!
I am determined that this is the year & will regain some storage space- I have given up on the garage- it has never had a car in it!

I'd put my few bits of inherited jewellery in an an old spectacle case at the back of the airing cupboard. That took some months to find & turned up in the end by accident.My friend put hers in a shoe at the bottom of the wardrobe!

Don't post often but how about this. We have a tiny safe for valuables, was built in but renovations changed that.

This summer DH hid it. On return from holiday I asked him to fetch it. " It isn't there" he said. I began to worry I had hidden it and forgotten where !. Thought and thought and thought. No clue so worried.

10 weeks later in walks DH, "I've just found the photo I took so I wouldn't forget where I put it but I forgot I'd taken the photo"

Relieved, but ???.

DM lost her engagement ring when I was a small child. She was further upset because she thought that my father suspected that she had pawned it . Twenty years passed and she gave an old dresser to a young relative who was moving into her first home. They were moving it into a van when on hearing a twinkling noise they looked on the floor to see the long lost ring!

BBbevan, pass the (working) pens into a charity shop. I volunteer in one and we are always looking for pens.

I think that's wonderful, kittylester you're a woman after my own heart! I've been in this house 18 years so I've got a bit of breathing space to do my drawers!

Have you looked in any jugs or ornaments ? Someone once found a very expensive ring in the spout of an old teapot!

My Dad died in 1992. Clearing out his bureau we found at least 50 biros . " Those will come in handy" said DH. They are still in a draw ,untouched and with the original elastic band around them ! !
I might disappear them in the move

Maps! Do we really need a drawer full of maps that are over 40 years old?
Some areas even have motorways now, not on our maps of course.

Pens - they may become popular again!

Not sure about Perry Como though but we could have DM's Perry Como LP somewhere ...

My sister lost a ring a few months ago and retraced her steps to several places she had visited with no luck. A month ago she went on holiday to Italy and rang me to say that she put her hand in her jacket pocket for a tissue and found her ring in the corner of the pocket. The jacket was a one she took on summer holidays but had worn it to a garden party and had not worn it in between, just as well she didn't take it to the cleaners before her holiday.
