The story of my life this is. Yes if you make the hiding place too obscure you will have real problems.
I do this with passwords I encode them so well I can't remember what they were.

I have a similar memory problem only it's the lever to open the bonnet of the car which is not in the obvious place. I can never find it and then, when I eventually do, I think Yep, I'll write that down in the log book so next time I won't have the same problem. But, do I?..... I think I just have a complete blank each time - should I worry? hmm

Somebody, on here I think, suggested taking a phone photo of the hiding place. An excellent suggestion, which I now follow!

I hope your ring and other jewellery turn up soon.

I remember once I hid one of my DDs Christmas presents so well, I couldnt find iit for about five years. Sadly, it was a VHS video tape of a film - in what had by then become a DVD only household! grin

I have been in the position of OH hiding my jewellery box in a safe place. It was many months later that he accidentally found it inside a bean bag chair in the loft.

One year, when we returned from our summer holidays, I noticed OH drifting round the house in a slightly furtive manner, opening drawers, lifting cushions and peering into cupboards. He finally admitted to having hidden the spare house keys somewhere and couldn't remember where.
They turned up inside a dirty sock in the bottom of the laundry bag. Obvious place to hide them really.
Hope your jewellery turns up soon katek.

Last time we went away my list of jobs to be done before we left included hiding certain valuables. However... I couldn't actually find them! It finally dawned on me that they were probably still hidden away from our previous holiday so in the end I gave up and decided that if I couldn't find them hopefully a burglar couldn't either. I have now found most of the stuff... but not all confused Katek hope your jewellery turns up soon, keep us posted!

I have a feeling that holidays may be involved somehow....maybe get cases out of loft.
Hope it doesn't take me 12 years hilda........!!

I spent all afternoon looking for my library book on Saturday and eventually DH found it in the airing cupboard! I think I posted on here that I put DH's wedding ring in a box of hair removing strips and nearly threw it away. And we still haven't found the keys to our conservatory windows. I'm sure your jewellery will turn up, katek... think 'obscure'!

Shortly after we moved here, we bought a summer house for the garden. My DH gave me the keys for it. I put them in a safe place, I thought they were in the desk. Ah, no. Now then, where are they. I've never seen them since. That was TWELVE years ago.
I hope you find your jewellery soon Katek.

Ask St Anthony to help you find it - he is the patron saint of lost things and it always works for me!

Good Luck!!

I find if I stop looking for a particular object and start looking for something else, the first one appears miraculously in a strange place.

Me too. Luckily the burglars didn't find them either and I discovered my sneaky hiding place after they'd left (a mess!)

The last time we went on holiday, I did the same as you Katek and it took me months to find them. good luck.?

rosesarered Mon 29-Aug-16 14:16:35

Have you checked behind the fridge??

Oh I know that feeling ! Every time we go away there's something that doesn't reappear when we return without much anguish. Can you recall where you put them the last time they were 'safe'? Sometimes if you just stop thinking about it the answer comes. Expect others will have much more helpful suggestions. In the meantime fingers are crossed for you. It's so frustrating and also worrying. Good luck.

Oops....can't find engagement ring for love nor money! Neither can I find the little velvet bag containing my mother's amethyst pieces. I have a feeling they're both together but where? I've done my usual and put them away safely....so safely that I now can't find them!
