Feeling very nervous

We have an old yogurt pot and postcard ready for just this sort of emergency lol! I have to remove spiders, moths and daddy longlegs from my daughter's room. I hate daddy longlegs myself. My husband is useless though - he hates moths and can't see what is wrong with daddy longlegs!

One of the many skills required when living alone is how to deal with spiders. The glass/plastic bowl and piece of cardboard method works most times for me, if the creature is within reach. A good method for those just out of reach is a long handled feather duster. The spiders nearly always crawl obligingly onto them if you hold them very near, but the skill then lies is getting to the nearest door or window to extricate them before they manage to crawl down the feathers and onto your hand. This can be good fun!
One thing I never ever do is kill them.

I can cope with anything that either has no legs, snakes etc, or things with 4 legs, rats, mice etc. Anything with more than 4 legs I loose it. Spiders make me loose it completely, thank goodness for DH.

Falconbird, I live in a flat and theres more spiders coming in here in the two years Ive lived here than the house I lived in for 47years!

If you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive. I remember that from childhood. Spiders don't bother me, I used to catch them when I shared a room with my sister as she was terrified. Now, as someone else said, mice or anything with a long tail, that's another story altogether.

I'm very relieved to live in a flat which is relatively spider free. Even typing the word spider gives me the shivers.

I lived in two Victorian Houses which were full of the really big black ones and I was on edge nearly all the time.

I have one exception to my spider phobia - the little speckled brown ones in the garden, I like them - sort of.

I wish I'd known about the spider deterrent years ago, but perhaps they weren't available then.

I am not phased by house spiders; it is coming to the time of year when the large ones put in an appearance. I leave them to their own devices. When we lived in the Far East I wasn't particularly fond of the huge one that lived in the banana tree in my garden. The end of the clothes line that ran past the tree never got used - not by me anyway! Cockroaches are a different matter. I have a horror of them. In Singapore they were known as "the great leveller" because everyone was plagued by them, from the High Commissioner down. DH used to hit them with his army boot and they still got up and ran! We hired a car once and set off to drive over to Malaysia, turned on the air conditioning and one ran out of one of the rear vent! I couldn't settle for the whole journey!

This time last year I bought an electronic spider deterrent for a phobic friend. She tells me that it works perfectly and hasn't seen one since.

I am not afraid of snakes, mice, rats , I have been shot at , rioted round and been close to being blown up ...non of that frightens me ...BUT spiders !!! Oh no !!

There is no gentle catch and release policy in this house I can tell you. Worse than seeing them is NOT catching them. Grampy has learnt over the years that I will expect proof he has killed the perpetrator as in the early days he was a little haphazard about catching the blighters but always said he did

I bought a spray back from Florida last time I went specifically for spiders and scorpions and that works a treat!!

Not frightened of spiders (except perhaps tarantula)my son of 36 is terrified.of.them and I have to remove e them for him. Sadly he has influenced the children. It is hard to imagine a fear when you don't have it. I don't like things with tails like mice and rats.Not keen on cockroaches he's as they are horrible to tread on, lots in Jamaica yucky.

My daughter spent several months in Bali. I have just seen on Facebook that one of her friends has gone back and woke up last night because of blood curdling screams from another room. A girl had been woken up by a tarantula crawling across her face!

My dad used to scoop even the biggest ones up in his hand and put them outside.
I don't like them but I wouldn't say I'm terrified. I can't settle until I know they have been dealt with.

I always keep a tumbler and a large piece of card in my bedroom for creature ejecting purposes. One day last week I spotted a large-ish spider hanging on a web near a chest of drawers - as I put the glass over it, it escaped and scuttled under the chest. Oh well, never mind. I was tired, so I just left it to it and got into bed. Haven't seen it since and I can't say I'm particularly bothered.
Now if it was a large moth or a crane fly ..........

Ps the fly spray didn't work so chap who was also frightened of it banged it with DHs shoe and it took 2 or 3 goes I am ashamed to say.

Spiders do scuttle at quite a rate, but if you think about it what can they do to you? Nothing at all. People often do not like spiders though.
The first night in our grass hut in the Maldives we laid down and look up to the ceiling and there was a spider as big as my hand. I didn't like that so tottered across the island to get a chap while DH kept an eye on it.
I returned with said chap armed with fly spray! By this time DH was stood on the bed and spider has crawled behind the curtains. I joined DH stood on the bed. The hut was round and the bedhead sort of went into the wall where there was a slight gap. Glancing back sat on the bed head was the biggest cockroach id ever seen. Now I really am frightened of cockroaches. The whole event was utterly surreal and my brain there and then computed that if I didn't deal with it I wouldn't be able to stay in what was paradise for 2 weeks. So I ignored the whole episode for the time there and it worked!!! It was the most wonderful holiday ever and probably will ever have as we spent all day snorkling the reef seeing fabulous and fantastic sea life including white tipped sharks and turtles -everything you can imagine

No way could I do remove a live spider from the house! I tried once and it escaped and ran towards me!
Im terrified of them too but being on my own now I have to get rid of them I cant cope knowing a spider is running loose! Last night a huge spider ran across the floor and under the tv stand, and along the skirting board I had to get it as just the thought of it running around was EEK!

You do need help ...that sounds like a phobia.

My little grandson gets very excited when we spot a spider and I pick it up and let it scuttle across my hand. Only the small ones, mind!

You perhaps would benefit from CBT IIRENA . Poor little spider was probably terrified but I am really glad you don`t kill them .

A simple glass over the top then slide a piece of card underneath, shake the thing out of the window/door usually does the trick. Daddy longlegs are worse but they are usually dead by morning.if you really can't bear to be anywhere near them you might like my other method (also useful for ? on ceilings over'the bed or bath.)
When I au paired many decades ago near Stuttgart, my "room" was an artfully converted outhouse in the garden about 100 yards from the main house -a barn conversion.There were spiders in my room every night when I got back after my evening with the family ,and then I used to use a broom to catch them in the bristles, then bang the broom head outside. My "record" was 17 in one night ?????
