Mrs P has just beaten me into second place in our Wine clubs annual bread making competition, she not only got first in her class (I got second in mine) she got best in show. She did this to me last year.
And just to rub salt into the wound, SHE used a bread machine, I made mine by hand. Grumble ...... Grumble

Think I've had the moaning crown this week wb. I'll stop now and you can take over if it helps. . Hope things look brighter soon.

Still lurking, but between Mrs P and I we are not to great atm, so not been posting as I'd only moan. Neither of us can walk atm and getting bored at home. Did say i was a grump

First things first...annsixty , no need for you to feel bad about sharing your recent disappointment. It's what us lot are here for. Life isn't always rosy. Buggerations there are a plenty. You will begin to feel far better once you're off the antibiotics. Today's visit to Sainbury is another feather in your cap.

wot I know what you mean when you say that being without food (whilst others are scoffing nibbling on something appetising) is enough to bring out the savage in the most decent person. And yes, when at last the trolley is wheeled into the ward and it stops beside your bed...that is a red letter day. Especially if there happens to be creamy rice pud on the menu.

number your post made me hoot. I do feel sorry for your husband. He's been through a very tough time. You too.

cornergran The local community is extremely supportive. There are about 200 people in the village. On occasions when we were without power and the villagers remained okay, we had folk coming to our door with food that they had cooked for us. If the car is away in a garage, someone hears about it and the phone rings with offers of a lift. Our late friend had been supportive of the truly elderly people in the village. Two in their nineties. He did jobs around their homes and made sure that they could attend appointments by offering lifts. Both the elderly ladies were taken to the thanksgiving service. One had to be carried down the steps to the pew.
One lady, a real character, was approached by the undertaker. He said...'Hello Mrs P. I haven't seen much of you lately...' Mrs P replied 'Good'!

My kick up the backside has done me good. I have walked round the corner and got the bus to Sainsburys. I have done a shop , bought Bio-oil for my scar and got a taxi back. I feel bad for feeling sorry for myself when that would be a mountain to climb for some people and many could never do it.

But very nice once you are allowed to eat again!

I spent a week without food, just on a drip in hospital and all the other patients were discussing there forthcoming meals. I was savage ?

Thank you milly the physio did mention swabs or a needle in if no improvement.
I also had flu last year , the first time in many years, and I hope they have the right mix this year as I think quite a few people succumbed last year.

Annsixty my DH had exactly the same as you, an infection in the scar after his knee replacement. It did take some while for the infection to clear and they took some swabs to check that he was on the right antibiotics. Perhaps that is what you need. It's a big op, bigger than replacement hip, but I am sure you will find it all worthwhile in the end, I know he has. I do think when you are on antibiotics for a long while they do make you feel rotten.
Off to the doctors this afternoon for our yearly flu injections, our surgery likes to get you in early for them. Had them last year and still managed to get the flu bug but probably not as bad as if I had not had it.

Thank you janea I will admit to feeling sorry for myself yesterday. I am feeling better today, I think the ab's got me rather down and I know just how lucky I have been with my knee which has been so successful. I promise to give myself a kick up the "proverbial " and feel very grateful. I was assured the infection isn't in the joint which is a major setback.

Ann I'm sorry you are feeling so low.
But of course 'they' wouldn't have done your knee if they hadn't expected a good outcome. I don't think age comes into it.
The main thing, the good news, is that the physio said you were doing well.
I think that while it's a nuisance having to take the antibiotics, in the scheme of things, an infection in the scar is a minor worry (compared, say, to an infection in the joint itself).
As for not seeing the consultant at this stage, I think that's normal. MrA had a new hip this time last year & after discharge he had an 8-week review at the hospital which was with a specialist nurse.
He's just been summoned for an annual review and I expect that will be with the nurse too.
I'm sure if there was serious concern about your scar the physio would have got someone to see you there and then.
I hope your knee continues to improve

Maybe a couple of days with food will help your husband find a smile number. If not guess a lost cause. . Has he always found it difficult to be cheerful or is it illness? Either way hard going for those round him.

Your friend's funeral service sounds to have been very personal, soop, what a supportive community you live in.

Another early morning waking for me, goodness knows why, still happy enough with the iPad, the Kindle app is a wonderful thing .

Soop, I`m pleased the service for your friend went well, it sounds as if he was very well thought of.
Hubby got his food supply connected last night, tonight there was a rather large bag hanging up beside his bed, and gloopy looking white stuff coming through the tube. Was he happy? Was he hell, he was as mardy as your a-se as they say round here! Rena and I very nearly walked out on him!

annsixty I understand how disappointed you are feeling. You have coped remarkably well and the set-back will be overcome just as soon as the infection is truly under control. Of course you will enjoy the benefit of your new knee. there are countless patients who may well be younger than you, who haven't made the progress that you have. All surgical procedures have pros and cons. You have come a very long way in a relatively short time. Keep positive. Us lot are proud of you.

kittylester It's sad that you missed the Gransmeet. Get yourself snuggled up and allow your body to heal. I hope that you begin to feel very much better soon.

The cremation took place at Cardrose. The short service was a gathering of villagers and our friend's family from England. Just two hymns. A short eulogy in which our friend was described as 'kind'. I hope that I may be thought of that way when I die.
There were delicious refreshments laid on in the village hall. On a large board several photographs were displayed taken of our friend throughout his lifetime. It was not a miserable occasion. Far from it. G, his wife, is going to be well supported by all the folk in the village.

As for the portrait. I thought that I was beginning to make progress. However, I shall re-sketch it as I enjoy a wee dram in our late friend's memory. My motto is...never give up.

Can understand why you feel like that ann but wonder if the appointments in your area are at that interval for all. May not be ageism. The infection will have had its impact as will the antibiotics so no wonder you have had a down spell. With luck there will be no flare up but of course if there is A and E is the place to go, especially as the nurse said not to see your GP. I'm sure you wouldn't have been offered the surgery if success wasn't anticipated. It's rotten but can only get better. Nothing to stop you talking to your GP about your experiences, some feedback, so they understand what happens to their patients. Take care, hope tomorrow will feel better. - in case it helps.

Thank you, yes it will all work out but why do builders not keep to their arrangements? Told one would be here for some rectification assessment at 10.30, then 4pm. No builder. So plans on hold this afternoon for no purpose. Have just sent him a cross text. Probably never see him again. .

Oh well, worse things happen at sea as my Dad used to say. ready to hand .

I am actually feeling upset and depressed now as I have decided I am a victim of ageism. I feel I am not expected to get the full benefit from my knee. Common sense tells me I would not have had it done if that was the case but the idea is in my head now.

I do wish people would stop posting while I'm not here - such a lot to catch up on.

number, your poor husband. While it would do me good not to eat for so long, as I have reserves to fall back on, it can't be helping his recovery! for him and for you.

Galen, I seriously suggest that you keep your mobile charged and carry it up and down stairs with you in case you get caught out. That really isn't very satisfactory at all.

That's a right buggeration Ann, I think rhe suggestion to go to the gp is a good one.

I'm feeling fed-up as I had to miss a Gransnet meetup After being ill last week, I think I over did it yesterday and feel awful today - early bed for me tonight.

Thanksbags yes I have exercises to do and my knee is good. She said not to go to GP they prefer to deal with it.

That doesn't sound good, annsixty. Could your GP give them a nudge? Also, would it be worth going to your GP about any further infection? Or do you have to wait aeons for an appointment.

I hope the infection clears up properly. Have you been given exercises to do?

I am going to have a moan. I have been for the 6 week review after my knee op.
I saw a physio who said I was doing well end of story. Well it would have been if I hadn't had an infection in the scar for which I have been on ab's for a week. It isn't totally cleared up so she said she would like the surgical team to see me in a week just to make sure it is clear, otherwise I would not have been seen for 12 months.
I have had far less serious ops after which I have always been seen my a member of the consultants team after 6 weeks. We are told TKR are major ops so it seemed so odd.
Fuel was added to my ire when it was not possible to make me another appt as there are no clinics next week and the next one is fully booked. I have to wait for a phone call to tell me when to attend next. I feel I have wasted an afternoon and also feel short changed somehow. If my infection flares up again I will be off to A&E like a shot.
