Nothing wrong with homework on the floor, anno. Minibags is an expert in making herself into a duvet pupa. I think the plan with the desk is to do with the box-like shelves that come with it: she can make piles for each subject she's studying. Something like that anyhow.

They bought a swivelling desk chair too. She's going to have fun with that.

Meant to say, what's wrong with doing homework on the floor? I used to do that with an eiderdown wrapped round me through the 6th year and a lot of university. Maybe my essays would have been better if written at a desk!

bags, will the fun really start when they have to assemble the desk? I managed to assemble an Ikea desk with only one screw left over - never found where it should have been! I hate instructions in only diagram form, unlike one of my GSs who can interpret a diagram for the most complex of Lego models upside down and inside out. If I ever buy anything from Ikea again, I am kidnapping him.

Tizliz may I suggest the stairs at two of my local tube stations? Bad enough without baggage but carrying a suitcase for me is impossible.

My local Ikea does not appear to have any signs showing the exit- I have no idea what would happen if there was a fire.

We have come back just in time for Strictly after celebrating DD's MIL's 70th birthday at a big lunch buffet/party at one of our favourite gastro pubs. I should not drink wine, champagne or indeed any alcohol at lunchtime because now I feel in need of a nap!
Perhaps I can maintain it is because I am tired from yesterday's early start and -50 mile drive??

I am trying to make a space shuttle cake for DGS1 this year and I tried putting royal icing on not realising how long it takes to dry.
Crumbs everywhere on the icing (that icing that hasn't yet slid off the cake.) I need this wretched cake for Monday.

I am seriously thinking of stripping of the icing and replacing it with fondant icing does anyone have any cake rescue remedies? I am out tonight.

thatbags an excellent idea but I have a feeling that you will not see them for hours! Perhaps he should have charged everything up today and driven to Ikea tomorrow or is that being too sensible?

MrB and Minibags have just left to get a new desk for her from Ikea.
Up till now she has done her homework on the floor. Her choice. She's getting serious about studying and possibly even being organised now she's in her Highers year.

They started "just leaving" about an hour ago. Then Mr realised he needed to pump up the tyres of the truck. Then he came in to get the directions on his iPhone (never been to Ikea before). Then he plugged his iPhone, of which the battery was nearly flat (obviously! He doesn't do being prepared ) into the truck charger only to realise the charger wasn't working. Then he came in to ask me how long that thing was and would the desk fit in the car. This is me at that point:? <<< my whatonearthishetalkingabout face. Happens quite a lot.
Meanwhile Minibags was running up and downstairs to her room on various errands... perhaps to see if her phone would charge....etc etc.

At some point I began to understand that the plan might be to take little car instead of truck so I said the extending window washing pole (the whatonearth thing; comprehension had dawned eventually) had fitted into little car but only with a bit of it into the passenger seat space at the front, but since the longest length of the desk bits was less, maybe....

Then I just sat down and left them to it.

They went in the truck.

well its a tidy round this morning , which we now have down to a fine art for an open hour ....which currently no ones is coming to so I shall refer to it as housework !! I am getting tired of this house selling lark already!!! It looks like we are in the long haul, so after our break away in a couple of week I have tasked Grampy with doing one of the 2 last jobs to do. We're going to redecorate the craft room , might as well enjoy it whilst we're still living here .

Good news for you all Daphne but it seems very hard to put the poor little chap through an MRI to diagnose a Baker's cyst. Both H and I have had them as have millions of others and the GP has diagnosed them straight away. I did have a Doppler ( sp) scan as mine had ruptured. I do hope he wasn't upset by the procedure.
