I have had some breakthroughs this week after a few days of thinking I wasn't making progress. The downside has been that I have had an infection in my scar. The very top of it never healed properly and then got angry looking and weepy. The Dr thinks it is a rogue stitch, I have been on Flucloxicillan for 4 days now and it is responding.

The good news is I hardly use crutches anymore, the physio was very pleased with me and I only need to see him in 2 weeks for discharge.

I can now use the shower over the bath which I prefer to the walk in, I don't need the unsightly "commode type seat on the loo any more and finally I hardly need codeine any more so this years prune harvest is released for the rest of you.

I hope very sincerely that those of you still in need get some help soon. I know for some of you the problems are ongoing and will never be better and to you I send very warmest wishes.

We had rain in the night which was most welcome as it has been a bit hot but no rivers of rain or storms here ( which is a shame ...I love a good storm !!)

I had a lovely surprise visit from Jackson and Cooper yesterday. Cooper has been quite poorly with tonsillitis and a chest infection so wasn't on his usual good form yesterday. However, after dinner we went to find him and he was in Sammy's big soft basket with Sammy both sound asleep. Sam stayed with him the entire visit even when he woke up - he is Cooper’s partner in crime! Its lovely to see the bond they have (less so when sharing a lolly of course) !!

Back to normal today and it’s grey and rainy and we have swimming with Jackson this afternoon. He is struggling with full days at school getting very tired so we'll have our swim and give him dinner and I expect he'll be in bed by 6pm - which is good because he is off to the O2 tomorrow for a big surprise - Transformers on ice!!

Daphne it has been stiflingly hot for what appears to be months now in London.

I apologise unreservedly for the awful heavy rain yesterday and today. I am certain this is because I had my hair done yesterday because I am meeting an old friend in central London for lunch. We were going to sit outside, enjoying the sun but that will not be happening today.

numberplease nice to hear from you and also that your husband has rallied round even if he is acting like a miserable old git. At least the staff realise that the family appreciate what they are trying to do for him.

Daphne he looks like a handsome if studious young man. Hopefully you can drive to the hospital as MK has been hit on the tracks it would appear. Maybe the "wrong sort of lightening"

Oh Daphne, you mean you expected Aircon for the plebs? Whatever next! But glad you enjoyed it. I keep meaning to go. As I keep meaning to do so many things. My bucket list is a simple one but still haven't managed much of it. As you, too, will know, it's hard to make plans. However, I might just take paper and pen and sit out the long wait in Guys with an outline of what I plan and put it in the diary. We've given up holidays so these will be days out, probably just me, but that's fine. Buck House def on the list along with the Abbey. Getting excited already. Dr Faustus is a possibility too. I like the story and would like to see the set and feel oh, I know her Mum!! Although I don't of course, but virtual reality seems real at times.
Maybe a nice supper for mr DB later on to make up for deprived lunch. Seems trite to say happy bday but hope it's the best it can be in the circumstances.

* number how lovely to hear from you. yes the dental trip was an ordeal! I'm glad to see your husband has rallied a bit and had to laugh at the curmudgeonly behaviour! How trypical it is, and unfortunately I've seen it in my own OH too. When I've apologised the nurses just laugh it off. Seen it so many times. Bless him, hope he's reasonably comfortable. We're off to Guys in a moment for his CT scan result and routine check up. I've got a good book!
Are there any thoughts of your husband having a spinal block? I've no idea if thst would be appropriate, but probably not if it hasn't been suggested.

numberplease you sound amazingly resilient despite what you are going through. I am glad your DH is looking a bit better - but how typical of a man to be grumpy when everybody is doing their best for him! But to be fair, he must be feeling absolutely dreadful.
The adrenaline may have kept you going up to this stage but please, please get some rest away from the hospital, with the phone off the hook if necessary, as you need to keep your own strength up. Most of us will know how we can cope in a crisis but even fall physically ill after the initial emergency. Please listen to,your auntie Daphne and be a good girl, not a martyr.
I am emerging from my busy few days and beginning to feel less exhausted. London was absolutely stifling, and Buckingham Palace, while spacious doesn't have air con and was very, very crowded. The dresses were amazing and I also enjoyed our tour of the gardens. Yesterday I was at the Barbican for DD's Dr Faustus for the RSC. (Blessedly cool, although I was dripping just walking there from Old Street) Really enjoyed the play, stunning set (of course!) and then DD and Flynn met me for a cup of tea and a granny cuddle and I went back with them for a bit of play before bath time.
Today is DH's birthday -no noughts featuring in this one but poor man is having a blood transfusion at MKH instead of a nice lunch out. Ah well.
What a studious wee boy he was in those days!!

Bellanonna, my first thought on reading your next but last post was OUCH! I don`t "do" dentists, not until the pain gets so bad that I have to go for an extraction, I`m such a coward.

DaphneB, you`re almost spot on, it was October 6th, 2012. I too hope we get to meet again, it was a very pleasant day.
Despite the surgeon`s rather gloomy forecast, hubby, although in a lot of pain still, is looking slightly better, but still can`t be operated on as they say he wouldn`t survive the anaesthetic. He isn`t being very nice to the hospital staff, nurses mainly, we`ve all told him to shut up and be nice, but to no avail. Thank you all for your good wishes.

I hope that you will feel better and your mouth will not be so sore after a night's sleep. It is far enough to travel on your own when you are worried about the procedure. It is all over now.

Had two teeth extractions today. Did the 8 mile journey on my own as DH not too well. It all went ok but teeth still bleeding. Feel traumatised as had been really worried, but so glad it's all over. Kept thinking of people much worse off and told myself to stop being a wuss. onwards and upwards now.
I hope we hear from numberplease. She is so uncomplaining but do wish she would come on and let is know how things are.

I'll attend the unveiling if bubbly is on offer but if too many attend we may have to queue to use?

Oh joy; I finally have a working loo and a bath tap that doesn't drip. Other than the fact that the man who fitted it had to go home twice to replace the toilet seat and then the cistern because both were cracked [he said his supplier just seems to employ people who throw everything around ] it all went together really easily. The S.O. and I are going to have a ceremonial unveiling later on. I kid you not, this loo hasn't worked properly since my ex installed it 20 years ago. I'm so chuffed. And I can fill the bath using the taps instead of via the shower; the plumber said the washer had totally shot it [I'd realised that and turned the tap off so tightly a few months ago that I could no longer use it].

soop I also wish that I was closer. Who normally looks after him ie like your recent weekend away??

I am afraid that I pop Tara into a cattery when I am hospitalised so I cannot "do" cancellations.

My present cleaner offered to visit daily and feed her etc but after this weeks' nonsense, I think not. She comes on a Tuesday, Tara's litter tray is in a bedroom, I did not check the tray that night as the cleaner had been here am. Next morning I noticed that the litter tray had been turned around, was facing the wall so there was no way that Tara could have used it. Luckily she did not need it that night or I am sure she would have let me know.

CharleygI was forgetting (that you're TC) that's a pity. Us lot would like to see the hair do. I'm pleased that you're pleased.

True...a winterime trip to Glasgow isn't ideal. However, I'm so wanting to be "fixed". I shall mention that I'd consider a cancellation. Thing is, we need to have a Rory minder. Wish that you were closer.

Sorry soop no can do as I am technologically challenged. All I was asking re my hair cut was that both sides were the same length- not too much to ask.

soop it is typical that you will be traveling during winter for surgery but the sooner you can have the surgery done, the sooner you can get on with your life. A trip to Amsterdam is a good incentive. Perhaps mention that you would like to be considered if there are any cancellations if that is appropriate. I am aware of the distance you have to travel from home to hospital.

The day started sunny and warmish. It's now extremely misty. Cannot see the islands from here.

Letter in post from Queen Elizabeth Uni' Hospital. Bowel surgeon has arranged for me to see a Gynae consultant early December. After which, if I'm lucky, I shall have a date for the anterior/posterior ventral suspension (or something like)...it would be grand if I can attend our granddaughter's wedding in Amsterdam (next June) and not have to deal with the hassle of prolapse front and back. We can but hope.

I'm aboot to sketch a handsome, shaggy-faced dog.

I was really pleased with my trip to the hairdresser today- she cut it just the way I wanted it for once. Came home, hung out the washing and 2 hours later it became very dark. I went to rescue my washing, got the clothes in but left cleaning cloths etc., the heavens opened so my hair was rather wet!

We have had hail stones, thunder and lightening and very heavy rain. I am so glad that we have had so much because my plants needed a decent drink as did the grass. It is like a river flowing down the road and I doubt if the drains can cope. I doubt if Tara will appear until it is drier.

Numberplease I am so sorry to hear about your husbands poor state of health. (((hugs)))

I feel so sad. I started the thread after talking with friends about wanting to know the future. I never thought it would be such a very sad one. It is not hard to imagine how number must be feeling at the moment.
