Phone sex operators yay or nay? what are your thoughts, and why
Some people in life think they are so original, but they are not.
Irina (hope I've spelt your name right?) perhaps it might help if you expanded/elaborated on your op, you probably have a valid question to ask or point to make, but sadly we do get some less than genuine posts from time to time, so please forgive some who might be a bit circumspect!
Ah yes Anya! I too was a Samaritan volunteer and the recipient of innumerable 'sex calls'. Asking if the caller was feeling suicidal was usually effective in removing the lead from the caller's pencil.
My experience re sex calls as a Sam was likewise, only my colleague, I think into her 80's asked in cut-glass tones *Are you w*nking, my dear?"
I found them annoying and while I recognised that the person making the calls DID have a problem, it was not the one the Samaritans was set up to address.
The discussion I expected was perhaps your thoughts on why people do this, what it is like from their point of view, is it sometimes amusing, any manner of things. My topic if you look was not phone sex lines...but phone sex operators.
I understand that you may have had teenagers on here messing around, although I am surprised they know about GN. I also have a friend who was a samaritan, a male friend as it happens and he used to get all sorts of abuse, that didnt bother him, what did bother him was that they were taking up his time when he could have been helping someone in genuine need. Some of the remarks I have had here are not nice at all. I am still upset regarding the Mummy and Daddy thing, for which I have not had an apology. Then the silly " Off you go then" ones. I don't respond to bullying.Bad luck there then.
Sounds like the kind of job you could do in the evenings to fit around the DC; you could be cooking, painting the walls, loading the dishwasher or just sitting with your feet up and a glass of vino at the same time.
No commute, no having to pay for childcare, win win
Unless the children come downstairs to ask who's on the phone of course.
You might have started the discussion by outlining some of your own opinions in your original post, though instead of tossing the "topic" if such it is, into the forum and expecting members to be interested enougntomwant to "run with it".
Some people have expressed the opinion that it is not illegal, and not of any interest to them, and others have said nothing very probably for the same reason.
Dead horses and flogging spring to mind.
I don't know what a phone sex operator is unless you simply mean the person, presumably a woman or ostensibly gay man, who is phoned by the client. Do phone sex lines exist for heterosexual women?
My only experience of this activity was when some male friends of my then teenage daughter repeatedly telephoned an anal sex line from my phone in London. The calls were routed through Vanuatu and cost me several hundred pounds. I then put a block on all numbers with that prefix.
It seems an expensive and puerile way to get your rocks off.
Jalima I have visions of some extremely overweight pensioner, with her hair in curlers, face plastered in cream, support stockings, bunions bursting out of her slippers and wearing a fluffy candlestick dressing gown, crooning down the phone line 'what am I wearing? A red basque with black suspenders, fishnets and red shoes with a 6" heal'
Heel!
Candlewick!
anya a candlestick dressing gown might be more appropriate wear for the operator in this instance!
Yay, of course! Phone sex operator is a great career for a woman, or a man who can sound like a woman (hetero men being the main customers, afaik.)
It can be pursued by anyone, whatever they look like and, as already said, gives happiness to the clients and money to the operators.
I watched a tv programme about it where a woman was sounding sultry and making exciting squishy noises with her rubber gloves and washing-up water.
Brilliant post, Ilrina. Are you thinking of taking up phone sex operating as an income earner?
No one is bullying you Irina .
They just aren't interested in the topic. I'm not really sure why you thought they would be . I'm also not sure why the Samaritan story fits in either.
Anya that was a perfect description and did make me chuckle.
I'm sorry OP but this thread is going nowhere ...
Ilrina why not try a different topic to discuss as this one obviously has run its course. It would also be nice to know a bit about you. Are you a Gran? What part of the country do you live in?
We are a genuine bunch on here and enjoy a wide variety of discussions but you can't force it when there is clearly little appetite for the thread.
Come back and tell us about yourself - I dare you!
each to their own but I'd like to see who im talking sexy to!
N&G the 'Samaritan story' was mentioned by Anya initially as some callers liked to use the volunteers as sex line operators. So a few of us knew what it felt like to be, albeit reluctantly, in that position and hearing what slos must hear all the time. The difference being that we didn't encourage them. Or get paid.
Good Morning,
My Thoughts on it? Pretty much the same as Far North said, and no I am not thinking of taking it up right now
. I think it could be a great job for perhaps someone who was unable to get out to work for whatever reason. I didn't see a post on here saying it was illegal. It isn't by the way. I again was listening to a discussion on the radio about not only this but other premium rate call companies, everything is very highly regulated buy phone pay plus. I believe there is also something called " Claw Back", so if someone has been using the telephone without the bill payers permission the money can and is clawed back from the company, and the company can be fined a great deal of money.
I will drop this now, but want to say one thing. If some of you didn't like the initial post ( And many seemingly didn't) Why respond at all? Had I been a teenage boy messing around for a reaction...well you gave me one. Had you ignored the post it would have gone flat.
I am 63 by the way. I did mention that in an earlier post. I have a three yr old grandaughter. I work full time from home, and am a carer for my dear Husband of 42 years. In short, believe it or not I am reasonably normal by my definition anyway. That's it for now have to dash out for some shopping...now where did I leave that basque??
Ah got it Jud didn't even dawn on me .... I'm obviously too naive by far !!
Hello again Ilrina and thanks for telling us a bit about yourself.
We may come across as a cynical and suspicious bunch but there have been posters in the past who have made us that way. I am sorry if you felt unwelcome and I hope you will come back and join in threads which interest you.
Enjoy your shopping trip and hope you found your basque!
I once saw an interview with one of these chatline women, she said she usually did the ironing in her track suit trousers and and a baggy T shirt and when asked if she was hot she would say " hot? I am steaming " As the saying goes " a fool and his money are soon parted "
Well, that went well !!
^Why would a group of grandmothers want to discuss that topic? None of my business, I'd say - it's not illegal*
I think it was Ana 17.00 yesterday.
Still wondering (not in a snide way) what prompted your interest in views on the "operators" as opposed to their clientele.
A poster is also treated with suspicion, if they talk about sex as their first post on gransnet.
No idea if you are a first time poster on gransnet, but I dont recognise your name.
Evidently there was a programme on Channel 4 last week about the elderly apparently being innocent of things like swearing, PC etc.
They should have looked on Gransnet first to see how innocent we are!
I wonder if you got the idea from there, IIrina?
