Phone sex operators yay or nay? what are your thoughts, and why

DaphneBroon Mon 08-Aug-16 23:04:41

My experience re sex calls as a Sam was likewise, only my colleague, I think into her 80's asked in cut-glass tones *Are you w*nking, my dear?"
I found them annoying and while I recognised that the person making the calls DID have a problem, it was not the one the Samaritans was set up to address.

Judthepud2 Mon 08-Aug-16 22:58:16

Ah yes Anya! I too was a Samaritan volunteer and the recipient of innumerable 'sex calls'. Asking if the caller was feeling suicidal was usually effective in removing the lead from the caller's pencil. grin

Irina (hope I've spelt your name right?) perhaps it might help if you expanded/elaborated on your op, you probably have a valid question to ask or point to make, but sadly we do get some less than genuine posts from time to time, so please forgive some who might be a bit circumspect!

obieone Mon 08-Aug-16 22:07:08

Some people in life think they are so original, but they are not.

grumppa Mon 08-Aug-16 22:02:01

What is there to yay or nay about? Not illegal, so it's a matter of supply and demand. Never having demanded, I have never sampled the supply. Good luck to all parties concerned if they are made respectively happier and better off.

Anya Mon 08-Aug-16 21:59:04

Excuse typo but sure you get the drift.

Anya Mon 08-Aug-16 21:58:15

To beat the cost some cheapskates ring Samaritans instead and try to wind the women volunteers up. I remember trying not to LOL when I overheard one 75 year-old volunteer ask 'are you masturbsting dearie?' Don't think they realise they've heard it all before hmm

kittylester Mon 08-Aug-16 21:50:03

I suppose the op things we have had sex and became grans by the immaculate conception option.

And, we are not all women.

Elegran Mon 08-Aug-16 21:43:10

There are open-minded and intelligent women in plenty on gransnet, but it seems they are just not that interested in sex phonelines. There are open-minded and intelligent men on here too, but none of them seem to be replying.

You also have to remember that since the school holidays began, there has been a spate of daft posts by bored youngsters who are under the impression that it is clever and amusing to shock the old dears by posting things about sex (oooh, how daring!) They underestimate the old dears - they are not so prudish after all, they are just rather bored with them. So when a new poster chooses sex calls for a first message, they get an automatic reaction - "Oh, not another!"

TriciaF Mon 08-Aug-16 21:40:13

Judging favourably, if it's not a windup, I have only one experience of this.
Where I worked we could make private phone calls, as long as we paid if necessary. Someone had totted up a huge bill, turned out it was for sex phonelines. It was one of the men on the staff, and he had to pay up - he wasn't too pleased.
So they are expensive.

Ana Mon 08-Aug-16 21:31:43

Well, both Elegran and I gave you our (very similar)opinions, llrina. I'm at a loss to understand what type of discussion you anticipated.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 08-Aug-16 21:30:47

What do you think of it?

aggie Mon 08-Aug-16 21:30:37

So move on to another site and see if you get a better response xxx

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 08-Aug-16 21:30:11

Well, you talk about it then. Off you go.

Ilrina Mon 08-Aug-16 21:26:57

Willsmadnan I find your comment quite rude and upsetting. Both my Parents are dead, Mum after a long and sad fight with Dementia. I am, for you info 63. It isn't me who is immature here. I had seen heard something on the radio some time ago re the phonesex thing, and I honestly thought ..ok, we have a group of females here, let's have a discussion get everyone's take on it. I have not had a sensible answer yet. from one person Tanith as I recall I got " We have more interesting things to discuss" Really? are you the GN spokesperson ? I thought this would be a site with open minded intelligent women to discuss with, I am very quickly being proved wrong.

Jomarie Mon 08-Aug-16 21:26:09

Excellent response Elegran *

phoenix Mon 08-Aug-16 21:18:44

I have (in a previous job) done a fair few live interviews for various BBC Radio stations, and have had more than one suggestion that I should consider doing "chat" lines shock blush

Elegran Mon 08-Aug-16 20:53:08

The consensus is also that we don't really have any strong feelings about it one way or the other. Most of the posters on here are women, who are not in general keen users of sex phonelines. We are mostly older - same applies, and we are not in general seeking anonymous sexual excitement.

From the other side of the telephone, those women who answer such lines are doing a job they presumably chose and get paid for. They don't have to put up with the physical company of the men who phone them, they don't have to tell the truth when asked what they are wearing and so on - I have heard that many of them apparently answer the phone in the sexy voice while at the same time they get on with cooking the tea or painting the window frames.

If someone wants to waste their money at a premium rate phoning someone who pretends to be randy and someone is happy to take their money - that is up to them.

None of our business.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 08-Aug-16 20:49:01

petra grin

willsmadnan Mon 08-Aug-16 20:42:36

Ilrina....why don't you just snuggle under your Thomas the Tank Engine duvet and phone a few sex chat lines and ask them? Just make sure your mummy and daddy don't come in your bedroom and ask what you're doing.

petra Mon 08-Aug-16 20:39:20

If it makes someone happy and makes someone money it's a win win. This is a running joke with my OH. Because of my acid problem I often have a low husky voice ..... I won't go into details wink

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 08-Aug-16 20:31:20

How could we possibly make an interesting thread out of what we think of sex phoneline operators? Like Anasaid, it's not illegal. Probably no harm in it, so long as the phone bill is payable.

In other words, whatever lights yer candle.

DaphneBroon Mon 08-Aug-16 20:30:44

I think the general consensus is that
1)this is probably a wind-up
2) bo-o-o-ring
3) repeat 1) and 2) as often as you wish to.
hmm

seacliff Mon 08-Aug-16 20:28:26

it's that time of year again!

Ilrina Mon 08-Aug-16 19:57:48

Nanaand Grampy, no of course I am not recruiting! I simply started a topic to see what people's opinions were. I am amazed it has caused such confusion, and not really found an opinion yet. Oh well nvm.
I am a little confused myslef by Luckygirl's answer " Go on Lad just phone, give us all a break" ??
