How Long Have You Been On Gransnet?

I've been a member since the beginning, heard about GN on The Today prog on radio 4 and decided to join. My very first forum. I posted quite a bit at first but have had a few difficult years with family stuff which I couldn't share - lots of court dates and residency hearings, finally settled in our favour. It was very hard not being able to share with all my new friends and so I've lurked much of the time only posting occasionally.
I too remember the Christmas conference call, I was so excited and put on my Christmas hat and earrings, we recorded a Christmas carol but I can't remember which one.
Also, the many days of worry over Greatnan going missing and the sadness when they found her.
I found solace in reading all the posts from other GNetters who had also lost contact with their GC - fortunately our situation was resolved and my heart still goes out to all those who still miss their GC.
I've had lots of laughs, some tears, won some very nice books and toys too. I don't always agree with posters but it is always interesting to read their opinions.
I'm looking forward to much more sharing and caring.

I started in 2013 under another name, I made great friends with other posters especially Hollydaze who has left and Rosequartz who has also left. These are the most memorable friends I made we would exchange daily mps. I have learned many new things especially not to fear getting older. Xxxx to you all

Can I just say that I would never join something called nansnet so just think what you would all have missed.

I have just joined, and this is my first post. I do look at the posts and find that as a 61 year old granny, a lot of the comments are very helpful to me as I share many of the difficulties and problems posted. Thank you!

i've been a member for something like four years. a friend of mine [now unfortunately passed on] told me about the site and so i had a look.
it's been quite helpful during the years and i have a chuckle now and again at what people get up to.
keep it up girls [and boys] i love to have my gn fix every morning after breakfast ................ and later on too via facebook.

What I really did not expect on here was the greetings, good wishes and general celebration and welcome that every new baby gets on here. I thought all these seasoned grans would not turn a hair at such news.

I can't remember what year I joined in my previous incarnation but I was member for a few years and then it all got a bit too "intense" and strident, so i decided I'd had enough. But, big sigh, here I am again. I love it, can't stay away.

I joined in May 2011 too . I did have a break when things got a bit hairy but glad to be back. Been back about a year or so.

About March 2012 when DD anounced she was pregnant I lurked until 27/9/12 when DGS1 was born. I wasn't sure I should be posting if I was not a real granny.

This was my first "proper grannys post."

"Today I've been is full" So I have started What I did Today, as I have something to be a granny bore with.

Today I became a gran for real. DD had my 1st GC 8 days after due date. Several days of twinges and a bad night.
DD rang me at 12:15 today.Just seen midwife at clinic, 3cm and waiting for the taxi to hospital. 5pm I had a phone call, baby had arrived at at 3:30 pm. That is 3 to 10cm in 3hrs! Noah Alexander *. 6lb 11ozs. Forceps as baby was tiring but amazingly quick DD and SIL surprised by the speed. DD tired and sore but says she is totally in love. I am visiting tomorrow 60 miles away. What a day

Gosh!I had to look at my profile to see how long I've been on G.N.turns out to be Dec. 2011. Time has flown! I had one grandchild then and now have two. The eldest is six going on twenty-five. Loved every minute,especially the funny stuff which I take pleasure in reading out to my D.H.

I am a relative newbie having only joined earlier this year. Can't remember how I discovered GN but have found it so so helpful. Having been told by 2 of my daughters that I am not a supportive mother because I can't race about from our home in Somerset to theirs in SE London and Cumbria to help with their children because of having cancer-related fatigue. Reading what you all say has really helped my confidence - not to forget the hilarious bits like the GN olympics, that was wonderful. Thank you all!

I've only just joined. The name put me off. It sounds ancient, it should be called NansNet!

Not a year yet, but intend to stick round.

I joined about 41/2 years ago when i had a problem and needed someone to talk to. On the whole people were very helpful and I've been here ever since.

Since October 2012. DDIL suggested it as a bit of a joke when she was expecting my DGS1, so I had a look, liked what I saw, and have been hopelessly hooked ever since I'm surprised to see I've been here longer than some of you GN legends who I feel must have been around from day 1.

Welcome, Chilledlady! I remember my first post got a bit of a frosty reception (probably from one of you lot!), so I love the way shysal makes the effort to welcome all newbies on the dedicated thread.

I joined in May 2011 after seeing an article in the press.
I,too,remember the anxiety, then sadness, about GreatNan.

I also remember Frank and his dog, and his exploits at Bums and Tums!

I had to check my profile but according to that I first registered in May 2011 .

I just peeped in I think and entered some competitions but was still working full time so it wasn't really until last year I began posting and popping in most days.

I really enjoy the forum and it's very interesting hearing about other people's lives. I think the genuine support that's offered is priceless.

The only downside for me is the sometimes harsh commentary on contentious issues . It's not my style at all but it's easy enough to avoid those threads or posters.

Sept.2013. Love reading contributions. Think I my be one of the older GNers at 80. Wish you had been around when my GCs were little, so much advice.
Enjoy them, in no time they will be grown up, mine 25, 23,and 23. A boastful Grandma, they are delightful!

Judthe pud - that was why I joined too. I'd met Greatnan many times on other forums, but when she went missing found that GN was where most of the news was. RIP as you say.

Welcome chilledlady! Enjoy! Remember, we were all newbies once! And everyone's contributions are of value too. Agree that childcare is a young person's game. DH and I staggering from looking after 2 grandsons for the last 5 weeks!

Gosh, I feel I am the only newbie here. I joined a couple of days ago while searching online for a birthday cake recipe for my granddaughter's second birthday. Found it too! I've not been a grandma long, but after waiting for a long time, my DIL now has a two year old and ten month old twins. After staying with her to help out, I now understand that childcare is a young woman's game!

I've been on since Dec 15, relatively new compared to some. I mainly read others threads but do contribute occasionally. I find it very interesting to see so many different viewpoints and so much support given. I love the humorous threads, especially the GN Olympics!

Since the very beginning! I was a winner of the first competition GN held, aNintendo DS.

I initially followed on Twitter so didn't post at first. Joined round the time Greatnan went missing and got sucked in by the search for her. RIP.

I have got a lot out of being on this forum: info, support and laughs. Have enjoyed reading the contributions of the wide variety of posters, all with such distinct personalities. Tend to read, but not get involved in the robust political threads.... because I'm a wimp.
