what is your favorite childhood book

I think I read all Enid Blyton..all from the library, Alice in Wonderland/ looking glass, Little Women/Good Wives, Secret Garden, Daddy long legs, A Little Princess, Ballet Shoes,Swallows & Amazon etc, Lion Witch & the Wardrobe, Silver Sword, Anne Franks Diary, Fifteen (Beverly Cleary?) So many I cannot recall. No TV and boarding school plus a love of reading kept my nose in a book most of my 'free' time. Lovely to read other people's lists as it brought back books I had forgotten!

However the book I loved as a little girl was Munro Leaf's Ferdinand the Bull. I have used it so many times in my working life too!

I have a DVD of the original Heidi, it's a wonderful watch! My favourite book would have to be Enid Blyton's Circus Days Again. I got it for my 8th birthday and as I read the first page I was hooked. Many years later I found a copy in a second hand shop and I just couldn't resist having been another read

Noddy when I was very young. Anne of Green Gables and The Loin, the Witch and the Wardrobe when a little older. Mallory Towers when I got to about 11 years.
My children loved Topsy and Tim, The Tiger who came for Tea. Just about anything really.
My little Grandson LOVEs Thomas the Tank Engine, but again anything as long as he is sitting on my knee and getting my attention!

I loved a lot of these books too. We had a library bus visit once a week and I worked through the shelves. My favorite was A Traveller in Time by Alison Uttley(?). The combination of historical background and adventure is still a draw for me.

I loved Anne of Green Gables and the follow ups. Black Beauty, Jill and the Perfect Pony (and the rest of that series), Little Women too.

When our grandchildren were a bit younger we could ensure complete silence in the car with recordings of the Famous 5. They loved them as much I did as a child.. Fancy 4 children being able to sleep on an island for a couple of days having sailed over! Magic.

All of the above mentioned books, plus one about a talking cat which I can't recall the title of.Absolute faves were the Secret Seven books, Billy Bunter, and Just William.

All the pony books I could find, especially Monica Edwards. Also Arthur Ransome, The Jungle Books, Just William and Little Women.

When I look back I can sort of trace my age in books.
So I think the earliest was little mouse books, chicks own annuals, what were the books called with chubby babies? Oh and Rupert Annuals. Noddy, little A5 size books.
Then Blyton of course, Girl Comic. Book of a Thousand poems.
Then all those mentioned like Heidi, Heidi and Peter, Little Women, Black Beauty and cried.
Then as a teenager anything I could get my hands on!

Little Women - loved it (Even bought it for my Kindle!!). Read a lot of Enid Blyton and loved Heidi too!

Little Women, Little Men & Jo's Boys. I think those three books are the only possessions I have from my childhood.

I loved Enid Blyton famous five and the faraway tree I still love reading but from a book not a kindle

The Water Babies, both the Alice books, What Katy Did, Heidi, Wind in The Willows and anything by Enid Blyton (I read them all)

I think National Velvet is a very underrated book. Deals with women [both Velvet and her mother]competing in what was very much a man's world and also how sudden fame can have such an impact on someone's life. Just as relevant today as it was then #mustreaditagain

I loved the Secret Seven and Famous Five by Enid Blyton, also Swallows and Amazons but I cannot remember the author.

All the Famous Five books, the Last Mohican was a big favourite and Black Beauty. Oh, and Lassie!

Mine is a set of books Athur Mee's Childrens Encyclopedias .I absolutely loved reading them over and over.

Oh, yes to the Jill books DaphneBroon, and every other pony book I could get my hands on!

One of my earliest memories is of my Dad reading Noddy, he read to me (and later to us) every night that he could. I still have to read every day and have at least one book on the go all the time.

Black Beauty,Heidi,Little Woman,Famous Five to name just a few,my Dad read a book to me every night and when I was older used to catch me reading by torchlight under the covers after he had turned the light out .

Heidi for me and Little Women, Good Wives, Little Men and Jo's Boys. initially I read Thomas the Tank Engine, Enid Blyton, (Secret Seven and Famous Five) and I also remember Mallory Towers (a private school story I seem to recall) - these were my favourite stories until I reached the age of 12/13 when I started reading historical novels - Margaret Campbell-Barnes and Jean Plaidy. MCB was really quite racey and informative whereas JP was more conservative!!! Educational books as my mother told my headmistress !!!!

Heidi, Little Woman, Black Beauty, Secret Garden, wind in the Willows, Shirley Flight Airhostess, so many Enid Blyton books including the Mallory Towers etc. Never a shortage of good books to read as I had four older sisters, but I'm afraid the Shirley Flight was all mine, and I read it over and over again. I really must try and get my hands on some of these again! (Well maybe just the Shirley Flight..........)
