2 Golden Syrup tins,with punched holes and string handles.Stand on them,hold the strings and walk along.

2 baked beans cans and a long string to make a walkie talkie.

I loved it! Used to take big gulps when proffered, usually with dire - appropriate word - consequences !

Old goose - I hated syrup of figs. Forced down my throat, if constipated.

Baffle walls in front of the entry(the close) to tenement buildings. Boys with patches on their trousers. Accumulator batteries for radios(the wireless). Playing "kick the can", or relievo, in the streets. Wee headies against the wall with a tennis ball.

I used to love those things at the fairground Lully. There was also one with a ghost coming out of a cupboard. Simple but obviously memorable

They have several prefab in Birmingham, they are listed buildings.

. Do you remember those scenes / dioramas in the prison when the man was hanged?. A big glass box on the pier and you put a big penny in. They have them at Portsmouth dock yard now. They may be Victoria n or Edwardian. On re-reading not sure I have made myself at all clear.

We still have prefabs in Basingstoke. The residents refused to have them demolished as they were so comfortable!

Some fantastic memories here. Living on the North East coast there were occasions when the TV flickered and then we got a very hazy foreign programme. It was always put down to the way the wind was blowing. My mother bought bread and occasionally fancy pastries from a weekly bakers van. I can still remember her coming back in with something new in a bag that was on the van - a bag of potato crisps which we kids thought were out of this world.

SusieB50, I always wished my husband would switch to a pipe from cigarettes, I think pipes smell wonderful!
GrannyGalactica, ypu brought back some memories there. I used to be a telephone operator, back in the days when we were employed by the good old GPO, and although our area, Rochdale, was automatic, I used to relieve out at some manual exchanges where there weren`t any dials, you just picked up and the operator was on the line.
When my kiddies were small, Cadbury`s used to make tiny little chocolate bars for 1d and 2d, ideal for littlies, and small enough for my grandma to hide in her pinny pocket when she came round, when I`d asked her not to stuff the baby with chocolate before her dinner!

watermeadow my DH smokes a pipe- disgusting habit I wish he would stop. Since I retired I have noticed that he smokes continuously all day , except when he's looking for the scraping out thingy ,looking for the lighter and refilling it . I hate it .

Slates ans slate pencils . Cremola custard . Pasha cigarettes they were the most available ones after the war we kept the better ones under the counter in our shop for special customers . Vending machines for triangular packs of milk I remember them in London in the 60s.
