Children playing whip and top, with patterns chalked on top of the top. I used to take the leather thong off my whip and replace it with string, worked much better.-- We had a whip and top season, a skipping season, marbles season and hopscotch season.

I loved Scott's Emulsion (yes I was a strange child!). I've heard of Steedman's Teething Powders, but not EE powders.

Scott's Emulsion

Stedman's EE powders. Now can anyone tell me what they were for? My mother always said they'd make me a good girl (epic fail wink)

It's the pram wheels that you don't see now. I can remember building a soap box cart back in the 50's. The big coach built wheels were prized for the rear with smaller ones at the front. We either steered with our feet or with a rope. There were some hills near Whips Cross that were great.
