Hilda I thought about 'Five Variants' the other day when there was a thread on here about folk tunes being transposed to hymns. I said that Vaughan Williams used to do it and that was one of the ones he wrote based on a folk song and then used it as a hymn tune. It's a lovely piece, but then, I love all his music, especially the Norfolk Rhapsodies at the moment.

The five variant of Dives and Lazarus by R. Vaughn Williams is just glorious too. I keep remembering my favourites. If you aren't familiar with it here's a link

Lark Ascending for the thrill down my back as it builds to its climax, and Mozart's Requiem as it is just a sublime piece of music.

As far as pop music goes, anything with a stunning guitar solo - just love rock and heavy metal

So many! I have a playlist which contains all the music I love. I play it when feeling in need of destressing! Favourite probably has to be Vaughan Williams' 'Variations on a Theme by Thomas Tallis'.

I love a lot of these but the one thatcreally struck a chord was 'How lovely are thy dwellings'. So beautiful!

Art thou troubled?

Ooh, so many to choose from, but my favourite would have to be Brahm's violin concerto, second movement. Our daughter was born to it being played. I had her at home, and my OH and the midwife were music buffs. Later on DD learned to play the violin, and now plays her electric violin in the Church music group.

May I add a piece of film music. I love the soundtrack to Pirates of the Caribbean (Curse of the Black Pearl) by Klaus Badelt.
