can't cope with the heat

I have a tiny blue glass bottle spray thingie . . . I fill with rosewater mixed with plain water and spray away. The spray is so fine it does not ruin make-up if you have to wear any!!! or anything - Iuse it all the time . . . in big use yesterday whilst playing tennis I can tell you . . . lovely! But all the girls wanted a quick spritz too so when it ran out I just refilled with plain water. My friend's Evian face spray costs a fortune so thought I would make my own. Keep in handbag at all times and a trick I always take on holiday with me. Though in India I had to move up a notch - spray plus a ziploc bag with a washrag and ice cubes I topped up as they melted to rub all over to keep me cool.

I sit with the fan on full pelt and my feet in a bucket of cold water. Coping with the heat seems to have become worse as I have got older. When I step outside into the sunshine I actually feel as if my innards are burning (fried liver and kidneys springs to mind)....it's a very strange feeling and one I have not experienced during previous heatwaves.

Those dog jackets are sold out.

I live on a complex for the retired and its unbelievable that some of them here go out shopping at the hottest part of the day and the heat here on the south coast has been in the 30s! one woman cleaned her windows and washed her nets and she wondered why she felt ill! Mad dogs and englishmen go out in the mid day sun!

Think we got into the low twenties here yesterday but very humid so rather oppressive. The NHS trailer where I had a mammogram was nice and cool
17° overnight, which it hot for here, though I wasn't too hot in bed and slept well, then we had a thunderstorm this morning to top up the burns again.

Stansgran is was 36C by the Lake, and 29C when I got back to the mountains at 7.30pm - I would NOT have liked to be on a bike going up Alpine passes!

I don't need it too hot to think it is lovely weather. Supposed to be early 20s tomorrow, so looking forward to that! That will be us tomorrow N&G, we'll sort of. Will be inflating the new paddling pool for DGS, and us!

I didn't quibble at the outside pool swim this week with DGS3 !!

I was very thankful when the breeze got up this afternoon in the park with the DGC!

The Tour de France looked very pretty today but oh so exhausting Jura .

Swim in one of the lakes does it for me- a Brtiish friend went to swim in the lake 3 times today, and back there again after supper!

Would hate to live in the Valley though- as it always cools down with a little breeze uphere in the mountains at night.

I could barely cope with the heat yesterday. I got into the car to go to the dentist and burned my hand on the metal gear stick! What kind of idiot car manufacturer puts a b****y metal top on a gear lever??? The steering wheel was not much easier to cope with. Even GS's was reluctant to go outside and do anything energetic! This afternoon has been a bit cooler. We had a flirtatious thunderstorm and a wet sponge full of rain and that was it. I am sitting in the conservatory with the doors open, a slight breeze, and the scent from the honeysuckle and the lilies is beyond beautiful.

I was exhausted by the humidity on Monday. Tuesday was much hotter but the humidity was less and it was far more comfortable.
It's got hot and steamy again. We had quite a lot of thunder about 4pm but no rain. I was watering my garden while it was thundering .
I was out at the David Austin rose gardens yesterday I went to sit in a gazebo to get out of the sun for a while. I got my bottle of Buxton water out of my rucksac and opened it. I did not realise it was sparking water. Carrying it about in my bag had shaken it up. A lot of people sitting near me had a nice cooling shower.

37 degrees in the shade here yesterday - and I have bronchitis and a temperature of my own, never mind the weather. Pretty unbearable!

Heat is OK as long as you dress accordingly and don't attempt to do too much; and drink lots of water or water-based drinks - not alcohol until the sun is over the yard arm (whatever that is).

Depends what you call 'nice', Tanith. It was about 34 deg here yesterday.

For many years I lived in a climate where summer temps regularly reached 45-50 deg, sometimes with 100% humidity thrown in. Yes, we had ACs, but you still had to go out in it quite a bit, and that could make it worse - out for even 2 mins could have you dripping, and then you were back in the air conditioning, often too cold, and would be all cold and clammy. During the humid season people would get sick far more.

I didn't like it but did get used to it - now I find anything above about 27 deg just too much - that is unless I'm on a beach with shade and sea to fall into.

You can partially fill a hot water bottle(!) with cold water and put it in the fridge or freezer for a short time, then take that to bed at night to keep you cool.

Rinsing out a light scarf in cold water and draping it round your neck helps you feel more comfortable in the day.

I don't like it too hot and I remember pushing my eldest in his pram round and round the food department of M&S in 1976 because that was the only place that had air conditioning in those days!

Extremely strength sapping, I think I enjoyed this weather once, but not anymore, paticularly as my feet get swollen in such intense heat. I have a freestanding electric fan next to my bed which I have on all night, an absolute must and all the windows open. We live in a development of houses which have communal gardens which go down to the Thames and we do get a breeze nearer the water which gives a bit of respite. I'm feeling very sorry for the members of our family who commute into London, it's horrible packed into commuter trains right now. [sweaty emoticon required]

I love it too tanith. Major strop here today - until 3 hours ago it was cloudy and blowing a gale. Still, got the housework and dusting done but did feel cheated .

Its such a shame that everyone can't just enjoy these few days of nice weather, its only a couple of days a year that we get heat like this, those of us that enjoy it hardly get the chance the rest of the year. Sorry if its a trial for some of you but I for one am loving it, a chair in the shade, my book and a cold drink bliss!!! I'm just off out to eat my meal outside something I hardly get the chance to do.

In SW France it has been almost unbearable too - up to 38° yesterday. But today cooler TG. Thunder storm expected.
All the houses here have shutters and the locals close them in hot weather which seems to keep their houses cool. But we don't like sitting in the dark. So as Mumsy says we kept up fluid intake. It does make a difference.
