Got an apartment booked on Boulevard des Anglaises, Nice. Starting tomorrow. Be like walking through the gates of hell. sad

You may not be able to go, or they may arrange for you to go somewhere else.

If you do go, some flowers would be a lovely idea and, if possible, a candle and some prayers for the victims, their families and for peace.
sad

Jings, it would be an act of solidarity with those suffering that at a time like this you had the moral courage to continue with your weekend break. It is people like you who continue with holidays like this that show the terrorists that they cannot win.

Not the break you planned, but a very important gesture, also on behalf of all but very few on GN.

Yes please go if possible, don't let the b******s win.

As harrigran said love and prayers to everyone there.

Take care yourself too.

breeze Fri 15-Jul-16 15:31:33

Is it a long weekend Jings? or a one, two week holiday?

harrigran Fri 15-Jul-16 14:57:27

Oh jingl how sad. Nice is beautiful and you will be carrying all our thoughts and prayers with you flowers

baubles Fri 15-Jul-16 13:59:51

Oh jings, you'll be carrying all our condolences to those poor people.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 13:57:57

Just looked merlot. Says the Promenade Des Anglaises is closed off. Don't know if we will be able to get to the apartment.

Daughter will have to sort it. I can't.

merlotgran Fri 15-Jul-16 13:42:55

Have you checked with the Foreign Office website jingl?

They'll probably have some details of areas that are being closed or cordoned off.

Hope you enjoy your holiday even though the tragic events won't be far from your mind.

Indinana Fri 15-Jul-16 13:31:14

It will be impossible not to be sad while you're there jings, but I believe you will also be uplifted by the strength of spirit of the French people. Please say a prayer from me too. Whitewave's idea of flowers from us grans is so lovely.
I hope you have a lovely time there - I'm sure you will.

Thanks Galen. x

Galen Fri 15-Jul-16 12:36:54

Have a lovely holiday Jing. Say a prayer for the believers amongst us for the victims.

sunseeker Fri 15-Jul-16 11:45:12

There was a man on local radio this morning who said he loved the area and had visited frequently and was today going out and booking a trip there. If we stop visiting these areas the cowardly terrorists win. I agree with others security will be very tight and the experience won't be the one you were expecting but I would still go.

vampirequeen Fri 15-Jul-16 11:44:04

If you and others cancel holidays then the terrorists win and Nice suffers even further.

It's important that life continues as usual or we play into the terrorists hands.

suzied Fri 15-Jul-16 09:57:35

The French PM has said the area was in high alert. I would guess the whole area maybe cordoned off. I live in London too, and terrorist activity has never stopped me going anywhere, so I believe in solidarity, but maybe in this case I wouldn't go, as its just so fresh. My DD had a holiday in Paris a few weeks after Charlie Hebbdo, and she did waver, but went and had a good time, and felt she was supporting Parisians. But maybe the next day not a good idea.

J52 Fri 15-Jul-16 09:54:58

Sorry, missed out 'of'.

J52 Fri 15-Jul-16 09:54:25

I'm really shocked that such a thing has happened. We seem to be living in an evil world, where there are aspects horrific inhumanity.

I'd go, but with a different mindset. More out of respect for the people of Nice and in homage. But it really has to be a personal choice, albeit a difficult one.

breeze Fri 15-Jul-16 09:50:53

My first thought was go and enjoy yourself if you can, as you can't let these evil people win. But I've calmed down now and thought about it more. Sometimes, and we haven't got the full news story yet, as often comes out afterwards; if they suspect any other involvement, they may lock the area down, as happened in areas of Paris. Get some official advice. And only you know Jings if you can push it to the back of your mind whilst there. Very difficult with the children involved especially.

Stansgran Fri 15-Jul-16 09:45:21

I think you should go. That's just what these people want to stop us being human and celebrating life. And yes find the cathedral a light a candle " a good deed in a naughty world "

BlueBelle Fri 15-Jul-16 09:45:06

Oh dear what a shame so close in time when I first saw the heading I thought it was going to be about future holidays and was thinking well yes of course it's ok, then when I read tomorrow ouch I can see the dilemma it will be very hard to enjoy yourself when the bloody has hardly gone cold I m not sure what to say to this one or what I would do in the circumstances is there any way you could change the dates ? I m guessing not I do think Breeze has a point, check first it could be that the whole area is closed off for a period

Katek Fri 15-Jul-16 09:40:54

That's a lovely thought whitewave - lay flowers for the children jings from the grandmothers of the U.K.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 09:40:45

I doubt if there will be any travel restrictions. Daughter is emailing owner of the apartment. Just to make sure they are still around as much as anything. They live in the same block. Going by the map in the Daily Mail, it's practically outside the property.

Riverwalk Fri 15-Jul-16 09:40:03

I personally would consider cancelling.

Nothing to do with security - living in London I've often walked past scenes of carnage, some in the immediate aftermath.

You will be so overwhelmed by the sadness it would defeat the purpose of a jolly weekend jaunt. You have quite a few of these trips Jings and it's not as though it's your trip of a lifetime, etc.

Nice is not in a developing country and the businesses will not be too harmed by the absence of tourists for a few days.

breeze Fri 15-Jul-16 09:37:30

Jings have you checked the travel advice?

breeze Fri 15-Jul-16 09:35:04

what a good idea ww

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 09:31:19

Good idea ww.
