It's all Greek to me!

However - there was a warning about going out on RL hunts sent by Pokemon games, if that makes sense to anyone who has DGC using this app. There are worries that it could be used by the wrong kind of people, apparently.

If it is an app, whatever app is.

My DGS are 3,3, and 15 months. How long have I got before I've to learn about on-screen augmented reality overlays? It's bad enough pretending I know about monster trucks and obscure diggers.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-Jul-16 16:28:14

Actually we've covered that in the thread already nina. smile

I read today that they've been playing it at the Holocaust memorial site and similar places.
That's not good.

One of my sons was heavily into swapping Pokeman cards when he was at junior school aged about 8, 20 odd years ago when mobile phones were in their infancy, I think. All the boys in his class were into collecting these stupid cards and the manufacturers cynically manipulated the kids by creating "rare" cards by printing very few of one particular type, thus imbuing the kids with the notion that these coveted "rare" cards were somehow valuable because there were so few of them. Many arguments and falling outs ensued, I hated the bloody craze, thought the graphics were awful. If I remember rightly a Pokeman film came out which my son pestered me to take him to, in the end some other hapless mother volunteered to take my son along with her own children, so happily I got out of that one. Can't believe Pokeman has re emerged, albeit in a more sophisticated guise.

Yep! Come just at the right time.

I asked George how much it had cost and was told that when he woke up this morning there was an invitation on his screen to download it for free.

Jings. I love the point that it will get kids out of the house. It was going to be an issue over the long school holiday.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-Jul-16 16:02:05

Should gave read "it's not illegal "!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-Jul-16 16:01:02

Yes. It's definitely coming to the UK. Probably because Mumsnet has posted detailed instructions of how to download it. (It's not legal. Just not officially available here yet)

It's supposed to be a way of getting screen obsessed teenagers out of their rooms and actually moving about. Will be ideal for my younger GS!

The church thing is so funny! grin

My 13 year old grandson has downloaded it today and shown it to me. There is a "thing" sounded a bit like pokey post office. (He has a new brace so didn't like to ask him to repeat it. ) Anyway one of these things that must be collected has been planted in the village church. He did walk quite near the church and didn't find it. He thinks he will have to go closer. It's a way to get a teenager into Church!

He told me about the one planted at Holocaust Museum. He was most disapproving. As am I.

A woman in America found a body in a river while searching for Pokemon.

Zena510 Thu 14-Jul-16 15:04:16

On the radio a Vicar has found many new visitors to his church because of a Pokemon apparently there !
Making the most of this he has posted a note saying all Pokemon followers welcome and come in and have a cuppa !
Loved that - although not keen on joining the phenomena !

And this rather amusing short video - What you look like playing Pokemon would be enough to put me off ever downloading the app grin.

PRINTMISS Wed 13-Jul-16 10:28:43

If only I understood these things!confused

ninathenana Wed 13-Jul-16 10:27:17

confused no idea

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 13-Jul-16 10:08:33

The number of hmm s in that post will show you my real feelings about this. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 13-Jul-16 10:05:50

I had a text from DD yesterday proudly exclaiming that DGS2, age nearly eleven, had downloaded the app, following the instructions on a Mumsnet (hmm) thread, and is now part of the "Pokemon go phenomenom". She sounded very pleased about it. hmm

He hasn't got an iphone so I imagine he is running around doing it with his Nexus 7.

On the radio this morning I heard that a Holocaust museum in the Us had asked people not to do this in the museum. I should blooming well think so too! hmm

I can't say I share DD's enthusiasm. Sounds really rubbishy. hmm

An yone else?
