Counting (pounds, not crows!)

I ask the staff in the bank for plastic bags where you can put coins into up to monetary values value stated on the bag, these are then weighed on machines by the cashier you are served by when taking them into any bank or building society.

What does always surprise me is that if you are paying into a bank that is not yours they limit the number of bags.

In the case of the Halifax, where I do have an account , they still limit you to 5 bags anyway.

The Metro Bank is now my preferred choice, you just throw it in their machine un bagged, and it counts it and gives you a voucher to redeem at the counter. Easy!

Not in my new modernised bank 12Michael, staff are standing at a computer terminal and only accept notes- coins must go in the machine to be counted! You then hand slip in with the notes. Bags and weighing are a thing of the past!

I love these coin machines!

We throw our coins into a big jar and periodically take it to be counted ... it's brilliant being able to toss them all into the big machine instead of counting into wee bags. Amazing how it mounts up too.

Machines are available in some supermarkets too but they take a cut of your loot.

Perhaps it is much quicker for the customer and the staff. Perhaps the machine detects duff coins (weight).
Perhaps it does stop human error.
Perhaps it is a reasonable thing to do.

But beware if you don't know how much you have, my extra 50p was said by staff to 'have stuck in the machine' so presumably the person using it before me got 50p less.
