I went to visit my Mum today

kitty it's hard to know what to do sometimes but usually I talk to other residents when mum is asleep, one in particular likes me to be her visitor too as her family live abroad, I help with her crossword.
I read a bit of poetry to them sometimes. I have given hand massages with hand cream I bought for mum. Mum isn't bed bound and these are things I do with her when she's awake, the others join in then too.
I take the biscuits round at tea time if I'm there then, it gives me an excuse to ask new residents their names and tell them who I am.

Nana3, if your Mum is asleep, can I ask, how long do you stay and what do you do?

I sit quietly and hope not to wake Mum but I sit and feel guilty if I catch up with emails, GN etc. I usually stay an hour.

Ahem, it wasn't ONLY kittens, and I (like you, kitty ) was just trying to do a non politics thread!

We used to talk more about our parents and our role as carers.
Life is less busy for me now that my Mum is in a care home, she is usually asleep when I go sometimes she rouses. I know she wants to go home and I know she puts on a brave face for my sake, it's heartbreaking.

Agree with you about the bad temper kitty, why expend energy that way? You know I was wondering about your Mum, End of life is so unpredictable, my Mum died 10 days after her final diagnosis, my Dad lingered. Either way is challenging. I also admire your humour and stamina, it's always good to hear from you. .

I quite agree Kitty. The sky hasn't fallen in and we are still plodding on with the humdrum . I sometimes look at the list of threads and wonder why I log in.

Rather like the newspapers, it is too easy to forget all the other things going on just because they do not dominate the "front page/active conversations."
Life with all its problems, sadnesses, joy or sorrow still goes on and we (in this case you kittylester) have to cope with it. And when it involves those closest to us, the pettiness of all the hot air being generated around us is brought into sharp focus.
Maybe we need to keep a tighter hold on our sense of perspective.

Ann, while I was there yesterday I was talking to someone whose mum had been on end of life care since last October!

Thank you, PRINTMISS. I'm fine but I am really fed up of the site being dominated by the politics threads and bad temper.

My Mum was only ill for 5 days before she died, a bit of a shock to us, but it was good for her because she would have hated being ill for a long time so best wishes and sympathy kittylester took me a while to realise she wasn't here anymore, would want to ring her to tell her something and she wasn't there to listen

I admire you so much Kitty, and you have a lovely sense of humour which must see you through some tiring times, not always easy to see the funny side, and perhaps writing on here helps.

You need to "carry on and..." kitty or your life would be on hold. When that was me I used to think that I would still be there in a years time.
