Anyone else been hacked on GN today?

I blocked him/her too, sounded like a Nigerian scam.

In theory blocking that name would prevent them from sending you a PM again but they register under another name and start all over again

I had one from the same person. I would not assume it was a woman just because of the name. Almost certainly a Nigerian criminal.

Yes, I received the same one from 'Miss Vivien Mbeya4u' but just deleted it, Couldn't block it as it seemed to come from Gransnet. Have been searching for ages how to report it as the 'Contact us' link didn't seem to work for me. I thought I wouldn't have been the only one though as GN had obviously been hacked.

I came on here straightaway when I put my laptop on, I had the same message twice over, but have deleted it.

Yes, she doesn't have your home email address, she just sent it via the GN inbox.

Forwarding it to an organisation collecting these emails might help to stop them using that hotmail address again to send them. However, they will just start up again from a new one. The best you can do is not get conned, and try to let others know not to be conned either.

If you DO get one direct from Nigeria, which hasn't been through GN, then www.fraudaid.com/find_headers.htm says ^"find the Full Headers (aka Message Source, Details, Internet Path, Origin, Original Message, Properties, Options, Email Message Source) which show the entire path an email traveled from the author's computer to yours. It is at least 2" to 3" long. When we track an email, we work back down the path to the author's computer. "

^Without the Full Headers, it's impossible to report Spam or scam email to anyone since the Brief Headers (just the From, To, Date, and Subject lines) don't provide any information that can be used to find out where the malicious email came from^"

If you have Firefox the full headers are in the message source, - you will find "message source" under the "view" button

If it had come direct from the author to you, you could forward it with all the headers to www.fraudaid.com/find_headers.htm who collect fraud emails, including ones from Nigeria (she does sound as though she is Nigerian) to get evidence.
Hwever, we only get a notification that there is a message in our GN inbox, and when we read that message, it has been stripped of all the things that trace it back to the original sender. I assume that GNHQ has informed someone of it, perhaps also informed hotmail. (we could emasil hotmail at to let them know that we have received this, but we can't send them all the details - and she may have faked the address that it claims to come from)

Yes, we weren't exactly hacked, someone just joined GN and sent various members PMs along similar lines. I had one, but blocked the sender and deleted the message. It happens occasionally.

Perhaps she posted to all those whose names were visible on one thread? I wonder which one she chose?

NanaandGrampy unfortunately I have deleted the email that person sent me or you could have been that person's new best friend. She did not ask me for any money but I am assuming that would be the next request if I had replied, so that she could return home to see maybe her brother who has had an accident and hospital fees are horrendous.

Seriously I have no idea how some of us were selected and others not. Your email indicates that there are two of you whereas mine one could assume is one person only, ditto the others identified.

I didn't get one so I'm feeling left out. If anyone wants to send me one I'd be delighted to send you EVERYTHING in my bank account :-) Don't spend it allay once !!

Did everyone get one or just a 'select' few? Does that mean we appeared more gullible than other GNers
