I'm having a job to visualise it can you take a picture of it and post so we can help/interfere with your interior decorating?

I've tried with some more light hearted posts...but no-one responds much, so I must be boring (ebay, swimming and the like)! Come on, I need tips on how to sort my 'missing' kitchen wall cupboard out! Due to ebay, I now have lovely bleached beech kitchen unit doors with a RANDOM mahogany leaded glass door looming large! I may have to tart it up to look like an open shelve unit, can't take it down as it is the other part of the cooker hood housing, its just the insides of the cupboard is not that pretty, any ideas gratefully accepted, ta.

I should just say in DHs defence he doesn't thrust his views on me but he likes to listen to the news a lot and read the papers and that's Ok. My problem is both daughters are in opposing camps and I'm in the middle with a family wedding pending. Its such a shame its affecting them like that. I come here for some respite and relief and if I can raise a laugh with some of my postings I'm happy. This is not to say that I don't have quite strong political views but I am sure no-one wants to hear them I often think of social media like a coffee morning - if I was at one where a few people were obnoxious or banged on and on about one subject I would beat a hasty retreat. In any case you cant get a true flavour of what someone is saying on line - you cant see their face or hear their voice so you cant tell if they are being ironic, facetious or serious. Dare say someone will take issue with me in which case my coffee cup has gone down and that's me leaving to go shopping.

Ditto, ditto, ditto to everything said above.

Teetime you are nor the only one who is married to a major news freak and it has driven me barmy. I tend to think that Gransnet is becoming weighed down with these political threads now - those who thrive on that kind of political cut and thrust probably consider those of us who don't to be "lightweights", but some of the debate has become so vitriolic and one sided I really don't want to get involved. I have enough of it at home.

I did give up on GN for the past week Teetime and did think about giving it up permanently. I felt overwhelmed with the barrage of opinion and diatribes from the same people who never run out of steam or seem able to recognise that there are other views held just as passionately by other GNs but who are a bit more reticent at expressing them.

Of course we all have a right to post but it felt a bit like a takeover by politicos and really put me - and I suspect others - off. They will say "don't read the threads then" but I would say is it really necessary to have so flipping many of them all about the same topic?

Hopefully we can go back to a more balanced menu now. That's what I would like anyway.

I thoroughly agree with you Nonna although I appreciate some people enjoy a political debate I have felt recently that the Granset site is in danger of a number of us and I include myself giving up on it completely. Variety is the spice of life - I'm wracking my brains to think of new threads and they may be silly but I feel the need for light relief from all this. I'm married to a major news freak and it coming at me from all angles.

And it's usually the same people, with the same views, talking to each other.

Back to the boring, nothing worth posting on, state it was in? I'm thoroughly enjoying all this!

I've just counted 14 'news & politics' threads on the Active forum. There were days earlier this week when it felt as if it was every other thread. Do we dare to hope that there are now other topics of conversation? I've been really pleased to see people making efforts at normal other threads. Let's get GN back towhat it was - a site for chat, laughs, and support!!
