I've just counted 14 'news & politics' threads on the Active forum. There were days earlier this week when it felt as if it was every other thread. Do we dare to hope that there are now other topics of conversation? I've been really pleased to see people making efforts at normal other threads. Let's get GN back towhat it was - a site for chat, laughs, and support!!

Yes that is very similar, Mrs Ps recipe uses 4oz marg. but exactly the same otherwise.

Thank you, Elegran smile

We need a mug and a teatowel - "Keep calm and bake a bun"

Elegran Thu 30-Jun-16 17:09:46

SR flour, Minimouse

MiniMouse Thu 30-Jun-16 17:05:33

Elegran is that SR flour or plain? Thanks!

The teenager next door sometimes does a spot of gardening for me. The remuneration always includes a few rock buns (A few! He could wolf the lot)

Jane10 Thu 30-Jun-16 17:00:08

While I'm on I can endorse Elegran's rock buns.

Elegran Thu 30-Jun-16 16:59:35

Is that recipe the same as your rock cakes?

Jane10 Thu 30-Jun-16 16:59:12

I've found GN to be very useful over the past few weeks. I've found it so helpful that I'm not alone and that so many others feel the same as me. I've been genuinely so distressed over the brexit situation and the hellish situation that we're in that GN has been a reassuring presence for me. Some posters put what I'm thinking and feeling so articulately that I've really appreciated. There are indeed well informed and deep thinkers here and I'm glad of it.
I've just not felt in the mood to look at the more frivolous threads.

The amount of milk in inexact, it is as much as will make it possible to mix it all together without it all getting sloppy - it should be fairly thick (avoided typing fairly stiff there in case anyone was shock)

GandTea Thu 30-Jun-16 16:54:39

I have copied and saved that, might try to surprise Mrs P next time she goes out.

Elegran Thu 30-Jun-16 16:50:08

For one of those "3 oz sugar", read 3 oz marge (or the Lurpack Lighter I bought by mistake - horrible on toast, but OK for cakes)

Elegran Thu 30-Jun-16 16:47:17

Rock bun recipe is 8 oz flour, 3 oz sugar, 3 oz sugar, I egg, some milk, 3 or 4 oz sultanas, all mixed together and plonked in heaps on a baking sheet lined with greaseproof, baked 15 mins at about 200C. G&T.

This time I put tablespoonfuls into 12 paper cases in a bun tin - just as quick, saved fiddling about with the greaseproof and they came out much neater. They taste the same and vanish just as fast.

OMG, JBF, looks like I have to eat humble pie (first portion today).

flowers to everyone

But rather than humble pie, those rock buns sound good (is that the same as a rock cake ?) They are about the only cake I can cook.

Now to watch Murray, if my nerves will stand it.

Maggiemaybe Thu 30-Jun-16 16:29:24

But I reckon if someone's posted on it today, it's active in my book!

Jalima Thu 30-Jun-16 16:29:18

Success! Thank you Maggiemaybe
(never too old to learn)

Maggiemaybe Thu 30-Jun-16 16:26:56

"Active" only gives you the most recent 50, for some reason.

Maggiemaybe Thu 30-Jun-16 16:25:31

Click on "Last Day" up at the top there, Jamila ^

One's vanished now - it's down to 102!

Jalima Thu 30-Jun-16 16:25:17

I can only see 50 Active threads

Elegran Thu 30-Jun-16 16:24:17

I have just taken a batch of rockbuns out of the oven and eaten three of them. I have two more on a plate in front of me.

I am supposed to be checking my bank statements and finding out whether my savings have plummetted yet. I CBA. I don't really want to know.

suzied Thu 30-Jun-16 16:24:15

I like the everyday threads. And I know politics is not everyone's cup of tea, I hardly ever read them before, but you can't put blinkers on and ignore the division of the 2 main parties, resignation of prime minister, rise of right wing etc etc can you? Perhaps we could choose active politics or active fluffy subjects so we are not offended by one or the other.

Jalima Thu 30-Jun-16 16:24:10

103 Active threads Maggie?

Why can't I see all of them?
hmm

soop Thu 30-Jun-16 16:23:31

Thank you, jingle. The kitchen isn't such a bad place. I'm so thankful that I can now stop feeling sick inside. smile x

Maggiemaybe Thu 30-Jun-16 16:22:31

Whoops, sorry to interrupt, jingl and soop smile
