I was told to throw a couple of Steradent tablets down the Loo to clean the bowl. I believe I also heard somewhere that Cola cleans well too.

I use the Milton tablets for baby bottles in the loo.One in the loo and when we go way leave one on the plug hole in hand basins and sinks etc to keep the drain sweet as they say. The tablets are good for Le creuset casseroles if I've used a red wine in the casserole. Comes up a treat.

I've seen one that's sort of flat plastic shaped like a spoon and is supposed to have silver in it which is antibacterial - it goes right up under the rim to clean but haven't tried it. I clean the toilet with the brush and bleach so the brush should be clean as well but do buy new ones fairly regularly. Also have some powder stuff that you pour in and it foams up to clean and smells nice.

OH gave the loo a good clean once then left the brush in the bowl to give it a soak. Unfortunately, I came rushing on, didn't notice the brush, sat down and - well, I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

It's a loo brush and proprietary loo cleaner for me. I'm not frightened of the brush sitting there between cleaning sessions. I don't use it anywhere but down the loo after all and nothing's going to jump up and get me while I'm in the bathroom. If the brush was seething with dangerous, aggressive germs, we'd be ill all the time! To save yourself from danger, make sure you shut the lid before you flush. All that tumbling water creates an aerosol that floats round the bathroom for quite a distance. Keep your toothbrush in a cupboard! ?

How can you not own one, I use it every time. My anatomy and the loo were not designed for each other. When we disinfect the loo, we leave the brush in for a while. Must watch the sitting on it, painful.

I buy very cheap ones and change them frequently. I pour bleach and water into the holder every so often and then pour the bleach down the toilet and scrub.

John Lewis sell the brushes without having to buy the whole thing, you can carry on using the holder but a new brush screws on to the handle.

I buy the cheapest toilet brushes I can find, and replace them often. The cheapest so far was 99p each.

Ladies, the answer is at hand. A new product to hit the market soon the Loogun, Cordless ceramic gun that shoots a jet of water down the loo, no need to touch the sides, cleans below and above the water line. I bought a new style of brush yesterday, that has a rim cleaner brush attached about the main brush. It sits clear of waste water.
My niece's then partner's mother cleaned her loo brush in the dishwasher, leading my very proper sister to eat fish and chips from the chippy out of paper with her fingers rather than on plates with cutlery, whilst at her house, and having to refuse all other meals.
Meanwhile, my niece developed salmonella poisoning, but the brush still went in the dishwasher!

I buy 'Bolmen' toilet brushes and holders from Ikea......40 pence each!
I get thirteen at a time and change for a new one every fourth week, 10 pence a week for a clean and fresh loo brush is fine by me!

I put my toothbrush in the dishwasher, but yeuuukkk! never never would put the toilet brush in , why would you put your toilet brush where things you eat off go, I mean you wouldn't wash your dishes in the toilet !I pour hot soapy water down and thick bleach , I have a toilet brush and leave it in bleach, I don't like them so I keep it out of view,but sometimes you need it,

marks followed by a good spray all round with G Swif I think its called...a flush then another spray all round the toilet bowl. Lovely clean smell.

I soak the toothbrushes in a mug with a Steradent in it. One for hubbie, one for me. They soak whilst I'm cleaning the bathroom at the weekend. I have put them in the dishwasher, but it rather ruins them and after that are only good enough to clean the loo (!)

Anyway, if they were in the dishwasher, it would probably be running when I wanted to clean my teeth and I couldn't be bothered to go downstairs and fetch it anyway.

I use a denture cleaning tablet in the toilet every night, and sometimes I pop in the brush for a soak. Works well for me.there are 30 tablets in the pack, and cost a pound, so that is very reasonable to keep the toilet and brush clean.

I save my used dishwashing sponges with the scrubber on one side and wearing rubber gloves scrub the bowl with Cif. Then I throw the sponger away.

I use the disposable Duck toilet cleaner system. Clip them on & flush them away. Hygienic & efficient. Brilliant invention.

I buy the very cheap toilet brushes (55p ASDA) and have a clean one every week. I have never used a brush to clean off 'skidmarks' - I keep a plastic jug in the loo, and find that pouring warm water from a height will remove pretty much any mark. The brush can then be used with some bleach to brighten everything up.

I use the Rubba Swisha from Flylady.net. Expensive at $8.95, plus postage from US, plus, once, customs charge ? but very efficient, kept in (frequently changed) soapy water, keeps itself clean and lasts for years. Anyone else tried one?
