We never use tap water in our kettle, DH says our tap water is disgusting. I don't care for Yorkshire tea, maybe it only suits Yorkshire water. We use Rington's tea because I was assured it was blended to suit the water in our area, bit pointless as he won't use the water.

Tastes of TCP. BTW, RH said it was the rubber parts.

Spot on Jenty61. We had this problem a few years ago and spoke to Russel Hobbs about the problem. This is what they said was happening. They suggested simply putting water into a jug and leaving it for a few hours to let the chlorine dissipate, that solved the problem. We then bought a stainless steel kettle with the element sealed in the base, again no more problem. Also spoke to Anglian water, they explained that the chlorine levels did vary depending on the water quality at the time.

its the chlorine in the tap water which reacts with phenol-based compounds sometimes found in plastic and rubber parts of the kettle thats making the tea taste horrible! I think water companies should give us all free jugs and filters!!

....is it the tea bags, no, think it must be the milk, it was on offer, chuck milk away and buy new milk, "tea still tastes funny", is it the tea bags, no, must be the water, run loads off and try again, "tea still tastes funny", is it the tea bags, no, it must be the kettle, lets buy another kettle, "tea tastes funny", IT IS THE TEA BAGS, so that was a rather expensive palaver, new kettle fortunately was on offer and I dont know how we got into such a 2 and 8!
