What did you take to hospital when your first grandchild was born?

All my DD wanted was a ham salad roll. Everyone else had brought chocs and fruit -all sweet stuff so she really craved something savoury. For the baby we brought a little teddy and for Dad we brought a giant chocolate bunny (it was Easter and I was very overexcited!)

You're lucky to be able to visit while they are still in hospital Rose.
My first DGD was born in America and we didn't see her till she was nearly 3 weeks old.

I did give my DD a CD when it was her turn later the same year. It wasn't this one but something similar from the same shop
She eventually got round to listening to it when DGD2 was 2 weeks old, having been mega-stressed, and was so relaxed she fell asleep on the sofa

We bought our first grandchild - a beautiful girl , a party dress and a bear so big it had to be moved on a wheelchair .

She still has the bear - his name is Somerset.

Neither gifts were in the least practical but we were so excited to see her .

I knitted loads of stuff...but what my daughetr wanted (she wanted me in the room just befor the placenta was delieverd) was ... SUSHI! She had been off raw fish, naturally...so off I traipsed round an unfamaliar neighbourhood in an unfamiliar city (London) to find some takeaway sushi...

Just myself as my daughter asked for me to be with her when she had him, that was 28yrs ago now.. lots of nice ideas from the other posts.. most of the others Mums have been discharged really quickly.

Never got to the hospital with any of my 7 grandkids as they were all overseas at that point

Why not a card with a few babysitting 'vouchers' from you inside

I was asked to bring a baby bonnet, a blanket and a yogurt ?
The first two because they were being discharged 22 hours post-CS, the yogurt because my DDIL was longing for one!
We all returned home together a couple of hours later, lovely!

I took two pairs of mittens. One blue and one pink. Then I produced the appropriate pair. My daughter said 'how did you know?'. I'm not sure I've ever told her the truth. He is 26 now!

Some lovely ideas, thank you! I have made meals for the freezer to help in those first few weeks but I might also wait until they're home and then we can do the bubbly and cake with perhaps a couple extra to slice and serve to visitors. Yes we might just take ourselves with hugs and kisses :-) SO excited! Alea that's a gorgeous blanket. I may sound very unprepared but I'm just flapping :-D Thanks all!

Another one whose daughter went straight home. But did take lavender oil round later that day as requested [best not to mention it to expectant mother but a good idea to get some in just in case...].

My first grandchild was home with mum so quickly, I didn't even get to visit him in hospital! We saw them at home a few hours later and just took flowers and a card. That was after my DD and I had been to their house while they were at the hospital and decorated all the front with balloons and 'It's a Boy' banners

A nice basket full of nice things for baby, and a few for mum. Which I had been gathering together for around 5 months. Helium balloons in the house when they arrived home.

My first gift would be no use to you sorry , I bought a mug with never forget your Welsh painted on it and a Welsh flag
