Brilliant film. I've seen it several times and, of course, we now all know the best way to encourage a lemon tree to grow (not something Munro did btw but the directors father did

I've just finished watching it ( in bits on I player).
I really enjoyed it, although I'm sure it was full of artistic license.

Sorry Gand Tea, hope I haven't offended you. I love the Aussie and NZ accent, but he was hopeless with it. I Googled him at the end of the film, he had a wife and 4 children which there was no mention of and the " incidents " thoughout the film I believe were all fictional. If he had crashed at 200 miles an hour as he did in the film, I think he would have suffered more than burns to his leg. He did create a record though which still stands today, so that bit was true.

I wouldn't know if a NZ accent was correct or not. But then as a Brummie I've always been quite happy with the accents in Peaky Blinders#whatdoiknow

Sorry that having recommended it some didn't like it. For a film I though it followed the true story pretty well. I didn't even notice the accent, I was too engrossed in the character to notice. I'm not sure what a NZ accent is, I have two NZ friends and they speak with very different dialects.
I have recorded it and will watch it again one evening.

I didn't see all of it [the tv in the kitchen doesn't work] but enjoyed what I did see. I like this sort of film. Was it a NZ film? They, the Australians, Americans and Canadians are very good at making this sort of film [The Last Winter springs to mind].

Sorry but found it very disappointing, Anthony Hopkins' dreadful Aussie accent put me off for a start, more north country than New Zealand. It was based on a true story, but very fabricated and very few genuine facts were illustrated.

I saw this film some time ago and really enjoyed it but thanks for the tip I might watch it again.

The film is very much about a very ordinary man and his persistence against the odds.

Just phoned my ex [motor bike mad]about it in case he hadn't seen it, but he has. Said something about them not knowing where the bike now was. Did actually take a photo of an Indian bike to show him a couple of years ago when I was in America...will try to find it...
