What makes you laugh out loud?

Yes why do today's comedians find it necessary to swear and try to shock - not funny.
For me Victoria Wood, Angus Deayton, Dave Allen, Terry Wogan always brought a smile.

I think Lee Mack is a genuinely funny man. He doesn't even seem to try. The spontaneous quips just fall off his tongue, especially in 'Would I Lie to You'. Most current 'funny' people try too hard.

And yes, Victoria Wood made me laugh every time. RIP

Yes, I loved the tv series. Haven't heard the radio series, though. There's another radio series called Cabin Fever that I've always meant to listen to which I think I'd find funny [from what I've read about the bloke who does it].

I used to like Norman Wisdom, when I was young. I well remember going to the cinema to see him , with soon to be DH. The lady in front of us fell off her seat she was laughing so much. Something to do with him being on top of an ambulance, if I remember

Dave Allen, Victoria Wood, Mum (new tv prog), HIGNFY, Billy Connolly (without the language) John Bishop (live - I seriously thought the pregnant girl next to us was going to give birth). My 4 year old DGD, and above all my funny, funny DH! The only time I was ever told off at work, was when we first met and he made me laugh so much and has pretty much ever since for the past 42 years

Rich Hall live; he never comes across so well on tv [although his programmes about America are good]. And, currently The IT crowd has me in tears. I used to love Kate and Allie.

Dave Allen definitely,despite his strong language at times. The sketch he did about funerals,with regard to the deceased's loved wanting to be the first funeral of the day in that particular graveyard to ensure that they went to heaven,had me in stitches. I do love a bit of black humour. Also,the 2 Ronnie's,although not the sexist ones. I loved Ronnie B's monologues for the 'society for the mispronunciation of worms (words). Hilarious.

Oh and among the more recent ones,Miranda never fails to make me roar with laughter.

I couldn't stop laughing when I was reading Paul O'Grady's autobiography at the part when the headmaster appeared unannounced in the kitchen when his mother was getting a home perm. I can feel her pain and mortification.

Mrs Brown's bikini wax sketch made me cry with laughter. Trying to cool it down by opening and shutting the fridge door without saying anything but we knew what she (he) meant.

John Finnemore is the writer of Cabin Pressure (where Benedict Cumberbatch gained his first fame). He can also be heard on Just a Minute and occasionally on the Now Show where he is absolutely brilliant. Many first-time players of JaM take some warming up, but he got it right from the get-go.
