Driving in and around Leeds is not to be recommended unless you are completely insane! My DH has driven all over Europe and this country, and the only time I saw him practically go to pieces was trying to get out of Leeds and back to Sheffield. The traffic system they were working to "fine tune" was a complete nightmare and we got hopelessly lost. It was rush hour and I thought at one point he was going to burst into tears - it was scary. We have never been back again. I don't think I could live deep in the country, but we live in the suburbs here and it feels very rural, while providing all the amenities and transport you need. DS had a house in Bedale and we were thinking of buying it at one time when he had it on the market, but I'm very glad we didn't now, although we did like the area very much. I think I might have felt a bit cut off.

I was brought up in the middle of nowhere on the east coast of Scotland, 3- 4 buses a day then. I liked it as a child because of the freedom we had but I have lived in cities since I qualified and started working. I have been in London since 1968 and I am used to the traffic here- and 60 miles an hour would probably freak me out as I am so used to stop/start traffic.

I love the theatres and shops and I have several supermarkets within 3 miles. I do not think that I could move to a small village. Each to his own.

City Girl. Drives me nuts, but I don't think I could live in the sticks.

Hello kupari
I'm a suburbanitewink
I love being near to local shops, tennis club, leisure centre and being able to get the bus into town, having nice neighbours and knowing lots of people round here.
I like visiting cities and walking and cycling in the country, but suburbia suits me fine as somewhere to live.

Hello Folks, I have just arrived back home after driving to Leeds this morning to view a s/h car. I should explain I live in a village in North Yorks, and my nearest towns are Thirsk and Northallerton. Once a month I get a train to York to do some "serious shopping".
(Get the picture).
Well I was really stressed out driving in the city, and it felt like no one was following the highway code!. Kinda scary! Its a long time since we drove through a busy city, normally we are on the motorway and dont need to do city driving. I think there was some sort of sporting event on which didnt help matters.
Just thought how depressing everything looked( I was in an area called Kirkstall. Couldnt wait to get out of Leeds.
I'm sat with a cup of tea and some cake (great de-stresser is cake) and it just got me thinking how different we all are , as regards the area we choose to live. I know now I'm definitely a country mouse, but my area would drive you city girls up the wall. So just out of interest who is a City Girl and who is a country mouse like myself. It would be fun to get your replies.
