ann it is only natural to blame H because as you say, he is not aware of what is going on. If he was left on his own you may not have a house to which to return post op! It is a horrendous disease, especially if he is fighting fit.

Thanks all. They have taken my mobile number and told me to keep it with me at all times. The awful thing is I am blaming H and he is totally unaware . He can't take in what it is all about while saying he will be alright here on his own!! When I rang my D he was saying " what's happening in August? "

Alea I can empathise with your DH, there was an old man used to try to get into bed with women in our ward and two old women who shouted all night.

ann it sounds as though you desperately need a break- is there not a home or wherever who would take your husband to give you a rest, mentally as well as physically. Your GP should be able to help with that.

Please, please do not have it done privately, if you wish I will PM you with the reasons why.

Oh bloody hell ann that's just awful. You see you do need to keep coming on here just to share that kind of thing with us. I would be sooooo frustrated and angry. I suppose I can just about see that H might not answer an unrecognised call, but it doesn't make you feel any better. There is a chance you will be called again for another cancellation perhaps? Do they have your mobile number, and can you keep it on you, in a pocket, or beside you in the house? Would you have been able to get to thst appointment at such short notice? Have you rung the surgeon's secretary to see if you could be fitted in at the end of a session? Beg, plead.... It does work sometimes. I'm not sure whether PALS could help you? I've found them very good in the past when I've spent a fruitless few hours being passed around hospital departments.
I really would get back and see if there's anything you can do, given the difficulties in August. They are human and often try hard to help.

Could you speak to your GP and explain what had happened? Maybe there will be another cancellation? Please try to feel positive and stay on gransnet...you need our support. A friend of mine whose husband had dementia used to tell me what little help seemed to be available to them. Hugs xx

Alea Your post made me want to hug you. Your poor husband will have been feeling shattered what with all the disturbance going on around him. You did the right thing. May he enjoy a little chatter and be allowed to sleep when he needs to.

One last rant. I am beyond being upset. Yesterday my H was in the room when the phone rang and because a name wasn't on the display he ignored it. When I checked it was a local number and I realised it was the local hospital . It was too late by the time I had made thr connection. I rang this morning and was told they were offering a cancellation but had gone to the next on the list who had accepted. The earliest I can now expect is August 15 th. I was told 6/8 weeks and I know it can't be helped but it will be about 15 . I would have had it done privately if I had known. My GD who was coming to look after H is on holiday then and my D who was coming up when I came out will be getting her C ready to go 3000 miles to stay with their father and will now only be able to come the week after and stay for 5 days. I am so upset I can't stop weeping. I cannot see a way round it at the moment.

I woke at 6.30am and got up because I had to remove the curtains before the men came between 8-10am. Luckily I got dressed because the 3 of them were on my doorstep before 7am! They were meant to ring and give me at least 15 minutes notice but not today. I did not want them creating such a noise so early but anyway, they will soon be finished and I can have the day to myself.

Loadsamoney here bought a new electric toothbrush via Amazon about a month ago and threw out all packaging. Naturally this toothbrush will not hold its charge so it will be finding the bin today. It did work for a fortnight. This time I will go to Boots and keep the packaging in case I have a repeat performance.

Sorry everybody, I am technologically challenged so will not be able to show you my new vinyl which has been laid so well that I thought that I was walking on tiles this evening. Anyway, it is dark, the same colour as the work top surface so would look awful on a photo.

Tomorrow I am having my French doors and the front door replaced so I will be indoors with probably a howling gale going through the house.

I know that sometimes we feel that our friends must get fed up with hearing us moan, but true friends will always listen, and I think we are in this kitchen for a purpose, to be true virtual friends.
We need your input too, and there's always cake!

So cold today that I put the heating on. It was a horrid afternoon with squally showers and a gusty wind. And now it's a lovely sunny evening.I fell asleep in my chair and now have a really sore shoulder.
Alea, I'm glad you managed to get DH moved into a less noisy bay. Lack of sleep must have been impeding his recovery. Hope you are getting enough sleep too.

Annsixty please don't go! Just keep us posted now and then. Sorry things are so difficult. Most of us can only imagine how hard it must be.

Alea, fellow patients can be a real bummer. I nearly always get regaled with complaints about the other noisy patients who've kept DH awake all night, but last month it was the nurses themselves chatting st the nursing station opposite the bay. I'm sure I'd hate it too. It's awful to be unwell with the added annoyance of being kept awake. I hope they can sort out his needs very soon. My DH got discharged to a new ambulatory day unit so went in for a few hours over five days to continue the I.v. Gentamicin. Others were there having blood transfusions and other drips. It seems a good way of freeing up beds if the patient doesn't need to be under close obs.
I hope you are relaxing as much as you can between visits too. I did get really low back in the winter, so do be careful !

annsixty I am sorry you are not giving us the benefit of your wit and wisdom on GN for a wee while. Don't stray far, in fact, don't go at all!
I can imagine juggling your own health needs with providing your DH with the support he needs is a hard juggling act. Life is very unfair. Good luck with it all.

So here is a pic of wee Flynn which made me smile. He is wearing an outfit from Sweden which DD actually brought back for her sister's baby when she was working in Malmo 2 years ago and was delighted to have handed "down" by her sister! There might be a moral in that somewhere.

Fairly weary now soop so am sending your mojo back. Good while it lasted but I suspect I'm an unreliable host. Oh alea I do sympathise with your DH. I had a similar but shorter experience. Told my consultant I was tying sheets together and abseiling out the window if I wasn't discharged. I slept for 18 hours when I got home. Hope he can sleep soon. So sorry life is so difficult ann, lots of hugs, I guess an improvement seems impossible so hoping for continuing strength for you. My eyes are closing and it's only 20.25. What happened to the days I didn't need sleep? ?

Sadly Milly we must be in the same part of Essex.

Our 'venture' had to be cancelled as it rained . Instead we went to a local shopping centre where our grandson was delighted to have his favourite 'macaroonies' while we had a cuppa . So all was not lost !!

So sorry things are still difficult for you Alea as I am sure they have been for a long time. I have had a very difficult day on many fronts, my H is increasingly hard to deal with along with my health problems and family.
I am going to take a break from GN but will continue occaisonally to check up on you all and keep an eye on all happenings.

Pity you missed Wimbledon,Djokovic was given a hard time by a French man who played some brilliant tennis. It was the first time I've really enjoyed watching Djokovic as he usually steamrollers over his opponents.

Oh poor DH Alea! Just when he needs plenty of rest. I remember being in hospital with pneumonia, desperate to sleep. The woman in the bed opposite had dementia. Kept coming over to me to have a deep and meaningful conversation all night. I was so exhausted and just wanted her to leave me alone but too polite to say go away. The nurses just said that she was always like that . After 5 nights of this I was so glad to get home!

Hope your DH gets some rest tonight.
