If I lived in the city my house would be a two up two down with a back yard, In this town it's a Victorian artisan's cottage with a walled courtyard lol

It's a form of snobbery. I live in a small town on the outskirts of a big city. A lot of people in the town think they're better than the people who live in the city. The town has apartments. The city has flats.

I think they all get called apartments now for marketing purposes - makes kit seem more than it is somehow.

estate agents are crafty as the use the phrase 'apartment' to bump the price up as it sounds posher than a flat....jusy plain snobbery if you ask me..

When it's an apartment apparently. There is a three bed council flat up the road from us just gone on the market and marketed as an 'apartment'. I've always thought apartments were either American or one storey dwellings that are so fancy they appear in interiors magazines etc. But for a regular flat? no!
