Thanks bellanonna DH also had Gentanycin boosted with Prednisolone (steroid) . He started on Ciprofloxacin which is his "go to" anti-b for 2 days when they thought it was a UTI then changed. It is worrying when previously effective anti-b's no longer seem to do the business and I note they have stopped giving prophylactic anti-b's or in advance of procedures as a precautionary measure.
In DH's case a nurse came out 3 times a day to administer his IV by a bolus so that he did not need to stay in hospital beyond the first week.
When you know the signs it is easier to take immediate action, but it can play havoc with your forward planning!!

I'm now washed, dressed and packed and ready for our road trip. Cape Coral is on the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida and is known as little Venice as the whole place is crisis crossed with intercostal waterways and canals. Most houses back onto a waterway and there are many restaurants that have boat docks so you can take the boat instead of the car to your destination.

Final goodbyes to the family soon. I know none of them want to go so I am sure there will be a few tears ! At least I can stop sending you pictures of the boys and resort to beautiful sunsets ( although hard to beat soops)!

Last picture which might raise a smile. The bath here is huge and yesterday I had promised Jackson a bubble bath. Late last night , they returned from their last Disney visit and he came for a kiss and a cuddle and I foolishly said ' where are you off to?' , expecting the answer to be bed. HOW WRONG WAS I?

Tizliz he would have bitten more than he can chew if he took us lot on! I hate to say it but it is this age thing that we all suffer from! I was not like this when I was 29- that would have been a better time to retire- I would have had so much more enjoyment although possibly not the money!

It is still not the warmest day of the year here yet. I think that the heating will be on again this evening. It will be the longest day next month! I have been able to sit out I think twice with a cup of coffee and a newspaper since "summer" began.

Sorry for whinging earlier about being tired. Everyone else has more problems than me and I wish everyone well quickly.

alea I am glad they found out your gs was tongue tied so quickly, it took them ages to work out why my gd wasn't feeding properly. Once sorted she was quickly back on track.

My OH went for his final checkup for his melanoma and was given the all clear, which is great news. He is such a worrier though he will soon find something else to worry about - do you think I could hire him out to 'worry' for other people ?

ann I agree with Bellasnonna, surely your cleaner understands the situation? It may at least give you a much needed coffee on your own.

A combination of AMD and knee problems do not bode well. I would attempt to get the eyes sorted first if at all possible but I am well aware of the problems.

Alea he has a urostomy and has always been susceptible to UTIs, which now seem to have moved on to the bloodstream. It's usually e.coli, and was this time. Some of the meds thst helped in the beginning no longer work now and his list of "sensitive to" antibiotics is very short. He has been taking a small dose of one type nightly as a prophylactic but thst no longer works, so he will start another one as soon as this daily I.v. course stops. I know your husband had this earlier in the year and it is very frightening to witness. This time DH is struggling to feel better. I'm hoping it's reaction to the gentamicin which is powerful and requires a blood test to see whether in fact it can be given. Off to the hospital now, luckily only half an hour's drive away.

So many probs, so little we can do except listen and send kind thoughts, and often that helps so much.
My H has had to be stopped following the cleaner round this morning, he does it all the time with me he thought he would do it with her for a change!!

anno, aaarrgghh - sinuses. You have my complete sympathy. As for refurbed houses - I've been drooling about the weatherboard houses between Aldeburgh and Thorpeness that have been turned into modern gems. Unfortunately, we haven't won the lottery or pb yet.

Bellasnonna, what a traumatic time you've had. I hope your DH responds well to the antibiotics. Does he have underlying health issues? I'm sorry if I've missed a post or even forgotten.

What is your DH's susceptibility to infection, do you know? Does he have it in the same place/or same infection each time or a compromised immune system?
I ask because we too have been through spates of DH's infections/suspected sepsis, the last just a month ago, which was e.coli in a bile duct. They thought it might have been as a result of his colonoscopy the week before as apparently most of us carry e.coli in our gut and it gets into the bloodstream through something like an abrasion, inside or out. He too follows the pattern of feeling unwell, then rigors and temperature spikes and I recognise all too well when it happens. The ambulance crew who came last time reassured me that I should always call an ambulance , it is not crying wolf.

Hope everyone's problems resolve quickly. Don't feel guilty about heating. Mine is on whenever I feel cold. Why not?
Just getting over the latest traumas with DH. On Friday he was " bluelighted" to hospital for 3 rd time since November with sepsis. He woke feeling unwell and quickly developed rigours, that awful shaking, with high temperature , so I drove to his GP and was told to go home and ring 999. Amazingly the rapid response came immediately, certainly no misnomer there. They did preliminary tests and called the ambulance. Within minutes he was in the local A&E on a drip. He came home on Tuesday but has to return each day this week for further I.v. Antibiotic. He has to have bloods first to ensure he can have the strong antibiotic. This time his recovery is quite slow. It's awful to stand by and feel so helpless but at least I'm here to watch out for the signs and get help. I have nothing but praise for the NHS. Over the "dreaded" weekend in hospital there were plenty of doctors and senior nurses around and his care was excellent. I'm glad to have him home but I do feel worried. Off now for another session. I didn't feel like writing about it before. Plus we've had so many lovely posts on gransnet, with two new babies, and people having lovely holidays with grandchildren, didn't want to spoil the mood. Guess it's all mix and match, though, really. All the best to you soop and to lona with her move.

I'm sitting here in fleece pyjamas with the heating on. It's a bleak, damp morning. Today I am going for a CAT scan on my sinuses and maybe the docs will then decide what and when they are going to do about the chronic infection. Last night's book group was in a member's beautifully restored bungalow and I think all of us were rather envious and, to cap it all, she also has beautiful cats. Oh well, can't have everything I suppose.

I felt guilty as I thought it was only me with heating on yesterday. Alea I know that feeling of helplessness when we can't put things right for our offspring.
I am having problems with the treatment of my AMD and my D has offered to come up for an overnight stay, 300 miles each way, to help me sort it out. Real role reversal. I have gently turned down her offer and must sort it out myself,but feeling so low isn't helping. Oh well!!
Hope soop has good results from her visit today.

Lona glad to hear that I was not the only one who was cold yesterday. I have a friend who has windows open in January- you will be amazed to hear that I never visit then! She also does not have central heating as she does not need it- she hates visiting me as you can imagine. At least today is warmer and will improve.

Charleygirl It was freezing here yesterday, heating on, cardi on, and my feet were like blocks of ice!

Also hoping all goes well for you soop today. And lona's house sale, stressful times.
I have got off to a bad start today , awake at 10 to 7 so got up to make tea, but when I took it back to bed and started to look at GN and the paper on my iPad, developed such a headache I have had to lie down again. It is still lurking, plus a slight feeling of general irritation even nausea. Fortunately, other than taking DH to the hospital for his weekly blood test, I have nothing that needs doing, so may do nothing.
(Possibly have littlest fella on my mind, DD said yesterday that she wonders if his tongue tie snip on Monday has unsettled him as they are getting zero sleep. I have made the usual soothing noises about early days and babies settling and feeding becoming established but of course I want to make it better. Don't we all as mums?)
