Help! My daughter can't marry Mr Willey

Having the surname Doe we had to be careful with choosing our daughters name. However I loved the name Dillon when thinking of boys names, but had to rule that out in case Dil Doe was used lol. Also had to rule out a couple other names for a girl, but settled on one with no strange connotations

Just think though, all her married life it will bring a smile to everyone's face!

I didn't change my name when I got married...very unusual back in 1976 His sir name was Hussey. Our children have both our names (mine being their last middle name) and my youngest changed to her husbands when she married. You don't have to change your name when you marry. Oh I do have a friend whose husband changed his name to hers. I have even heard of people combining their names to make a new name.

There was a boy in my class at junior school called Peter Green. His mother was called Theresa Green.

A teacher friend of mine had a boy in her class with the surname Peacock.
Unfortunately, his parents named him Drew.

My art teacher at school was a huge Cole Porter fan... named his first child after him... so somewhere there is a poor devil called Cole Pit ( Minor )

I also had a family planning doctor in the 70s called Rosie Cock.

LOL. That has really cheered me up this morning. If I were marrying a Willey, I'd keep my own surname or ask him to change his slightly - even Wiley would be ok.

It makes you wonder how on earth all these names came about, surely it cannot be as obvious as most would seem to think?!

My uncle was John Thomas, as was his father.

We used to have a chap called John Thomas working for us. We generally referred to him as JT.

A friend of mine knew a girl with the surname Kermode and the Christian name Honor!
I had two Victorian ancestors with the surname Cock and the Christian name William. I don't know if they were known as Willie.

And another quite common name here, is Bogie. Not so very nice for one of DH's classmates, Henrietta.

John Smelley did not like his name so he had it changed by deed poll.He is now called Peter Smelley

I knew a lady whose name was Maud Hogsflesh.

Ed Balls once said that for obvious reasons ,his children took their mother's surname.

I've mentioned before about writing to a Mr Peed whose first name was Isaac and he lived in Pond Lane.

Also mentioned a colleague whose daughter married a Mr Plonka and they called their baby Polly.

The surname of someone who worked for the same firm as DH was 'Bunkle'
His parents had named him Carl for some unknown reason. Perhaps they didn't like him much.

Working in a chemist shop many, many years ago, one customer was called Euphemia Crick, then there was also a Mrs. Tinkler and a Mr Gasser. Handing out prescriptions with a straight face was sometimes difficult!

There was a very successful stock car driver in the 60's called Willie Wanklyn. We used to watch him at Harringay.

Well, there was a boy in my Junior class called Roger Chitty and my very first love was called......Richard Large, known as Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!
