Hello Kitcheners. Hope I am OK to post here. Just wanted to say that I had scarlet fever in the 50's and it left me with a long term ankle weakness that still means I prone to sprains. This was due (as far as I am told) to the many weeks I spent in bed.

Never heard of it giving leg weakness

soop I understand your falling problem better now.
Strange coincidence - I had scarlet fever in 1945 too, but was able to stay at home, well, we were living with grandparents. I was in a bedroom for 6 weeks, disinfected curtain hanging over the door. Very boring though! Everything I used had to be burned .
But TG I didn't have a leg problem afterwards.

soop I feel for you, I had a nice selection like that when I fell off a horse and got stamped on.

Like you we have wonderful weather yesterday and today. We have visitors coming tomorrow for a week so it is sure to be cold and wet, so make the most of it.

I have been rebuilding my pc AGAIN. It is only a year old and has caused nothing but grief. I thought technology was supposed to help.

At last! I've been trying to post today's message for yonks. Nothing happened. I sent a text to bags and she said that she wasn't experiencing difficulties with GN forums.

Phew! It is really hot in sunny Kintyre. We're about to leave for the appointment with the optician in Tarbert. I shall catch up with all the latest news after ironing job duties tomorrow.

Our youngest DGS has lost his indoor voice so if anyone spots it please send it back ! An early start for the youngsters today as they head off to Disneys Animal Kingdom. Great excitement all round .

Their swimming is improving daily to the extent that Jackson now needs no support and can easily swim the length of the pool . Cooper, the little one has discovered his love of the water and now has to wear a special flotation vest as he is prone to stepping off the side whether you're ready or not. As a girl brought up by the sea I have a huge respect for water so am always aware of where the boys are if the pool gate is open.

Kitty we know the area but our plan ( if all works out) is to sell first, rent in the area to double check its right for us , then buy. I am also being picky , as this will be our forever home , so the footprint must be right. Decor etc I can change.

soop those bruises look nasty. I am so sorry you' ve had such bad luck lately . Hopefully , you will stay upright long enough for those to fade! Must have been your excitement at spending time with Torben.

Thank you for your kind messages. I've been visiting the care home ladies. No chair available so I sat on a very low stool. when the time came to leave...I was stuck. A carer had to give me assistance. I felt awfully
Eye test this afternoon. I've lost my prescription specs. (Not the specs that Torben wore at the weekend). I suppose that means parting with yet more cash.

MacSporran photographs all my tripping-over bruises. I may need to refer back to the GP. After my stay in an isolation ward in 1945 (scarlet fever) my right leg remained very weak. I wore a brace for a time. Needed to take up ballet and swimming in order to help it recover. All these years on, it is most def the reason why I tumble.

Soop, I'm so sorry to hear you've fallen again and hope you are feeling more 'normal' now. I also seem to get more worried about falling as I get older and stairs can sometimes scare the heebie jeebies out of me. A friend whose feet went 'funny' when she had chemo asked me to take her 'out' so she could try stairs and escalators. I didn't dare tell her that I was probably as worried as she was!

Lona, your house seems to be very popular! I do hope you sell soon - limbo is a horrid state to be in.

Alea honestly! That baby must be a boy!! Your poor husband (and therefore you!!) does seem to be suffering at the moment.

NanaandGrampy you sound as though you are having a great time and will be energised enough to start the selling process. Have you found somewhere to move to?

Alea, the sight of my late granny's underwear hanging on the line put me right off the idea of 'semmets'.

I had a flash of a memory long buried when I read these posts ( including my own). One of my very good friends has a SiL who is American and was in "real estate" ,when she had clients whose houses were sticking she would recommend they buried a replica of a particular saint in their garden. I can't remember which one, perhaps the saint for desperation??

Tor been is not only a handsome young man but has an uncanny likeness to you. I see he got his 'treasure ' boxes. Did he enjoy them? Your weekend ( apart from your fall) sounds like it was perfect and surprising too.!!

Today has been a day off , my DD and family have been out so Grampy and I have swum, lazed , popped out for a kiddy free lunch and then more swimming. It's been lovely but I'm refreshed now and ready for their return.

soop, your pictures say it all - how much your family means to you and it's clearly mutual. Torben is such a big boy now. It won't be long before he's taller than you - as my GS (aged 11) is now taller than I am. I have always had a fear of falling (much more so now) and it would be a good thing if I could pass that fear on to you - you might be more cautious. Try not to move your head round too fast - if you see what I mean. Anyway, look after yourself. According to today's weather reports, you've been having the hottest weather up there. And it's been really hot here - so much so that I abandoned my socks and cardigan, even though May is not yet 'oot'.

Welcome home soop and macsporran , I could have wished it hadn't quite been such a good trip(see what I did there?) but despite the shaking up I hope it didn't detract from the pleasure of the family get-together.
News from DD is that although the baby's head is more or less engaged and s/he seems ready to join us, DD's body hasn't quite got the message yet and her cervix is well and truly NOT open for business. She had a sweep and a scan and the baby seems to be about 8lb (plenty big enough) and has a full head of hair! SIL wanted to know if it was ginger and was disappointed to be told they don't yet do scans in colour! He has reddish hair and of course on our side of the family little Toby is a ginger nut (see the ginger nut thread!) so he is very hopeful! I feel reassured talking to her today, she is having acupuncture tomorrow and another sweep on Wednesday so they will decide onThursday what they want to do. Hospital are thinking of having her in in Saturday to be induced if nothing' has happened before, but baby is healthy and there is plenty of amniotic fluid so they are happy to let it go on for a bit.
Grace seems to be more in eating mode but I am sticking to the chicken and rice for her . The fact that it has cooled down a bit this evening seems to be helping. Oh dear, so much on my mind. DH's legs are still swollen up like tree trunks, does anybody else have experience of steroids causing lower limb fluid retention? Fortunately he has found an old pair of Birkenstocks as he simply can't get a shoe on.

Lona I hope things go well for you. A streak of ruthlessness helps even though we wouldn't use it in any other situation and it doesn't come easily to us.
My neighbour has had an horrendous time ,not with the selling of hers, that went well and she got slightly over the asking price. It is the buying of a much smaller bungalow, the vendor has been obstructive which now seems to be due to delaying tactics ,instead of being honest she has been very devious and could have lost my neighbour her sale.
Soop I am so pleased your visit ended on a higher note than it started on. You will have to take these falls serious!y and get yourself checked out.

I'm so glad soop that you had such a great time with your delightful family, they clearly think the world of you both.
I'm not so happy that you decided to trip the light fantastic at the airport! You really do know how to scare the wits out of us all. Hope you're feeling a bit less sore by now.

I've had another offer on my house, which isn't quite as good as I need it to be for my future existence! So, I've decided to let my ds take over the negotiating. He's a ruthless charmer when he wants to be, plus, he knows the boss man The lady who made this offer seems very taken with the house, and she has plans to do it up! So, we'll see what transpires.
Anyway, I've had two more viewings this afternoon and another on Wednesday! That's 16 in five weeks!

soop. I'm delighted you had such a great break " down south". The weather has certainly been excellent. The family pics are all lovely too.
So, so sorry to hear about your further fall. How unfair, , just a few days after falling in your garden. I absolutely hate falling backwards, well don't like falling any way really, but frontwards is better despite grazed knees and painful hands. Poor you, especially with such a large lump on your head, and more coccyx pain. I'm not sure if you can take more care as I'm sure you do that anyway. Maybe just watch the ground when you're walking (but don't bump into anything!).
I hope you recover soon otherwise a trip to the GP maybe? Glad Rory and Bracken were happy to see you and I'm sure that cheered you up. Get better very soon !

Alea, my dog Sophie will only eat chicken! I do disguise other bits under the chicken which as to be slightly warm! I put a little cream cheese or pate on it to tempt her. When we first got her, she'd eat anything. All my rescue dogs have become fussy eaters____it really must be my fault as they're all thin and I pamper them (they're worth it!)

As someone who is also prone to falls, I wonder if it's because we're always thinking ahead to the next stage of wherever we're aiming for, instead of concentrating on the here and now?
I think that applies to me, though how to change, I don't know.

Charleyg I was not carrying my small travel bag. It was on a trolley. My exceedingly small purse was across my chest. The shorter leg turns inwards as I walk and I trip over the longer leg.

Care home visit tomorrow. Please take care of yourselves and enjoy what promises to be a beautiful evening.

jollyg and Galen I use an arm crutch. I'm aware that I cannot continue to fall as often as I've done since the turn of the year. The medic at the airport said...'you're a very lucky lady. Your top-knot hair do helped to cushion the fall'. The egg is slowly decreasing in size. It still hurts to brush my hair at the crown.

My son's partner gave me a special cushion for lower back soreness. The bruising on the coccyx is looking grim.

I still managed to have a super weekend. It's what we Kitcheners do well.
