I'm the worlds most wonderful mother and friend

My DGD sent me one which I thought was one of these dubious faith based ones. I was slightly shocked as her mother was supposed to be keeping an eye on her Internet use.I've also had the recipe one but I suspected a computer hack behind it. I'm a suspicious person.

I also hate the posts saying what a gift from God and a blessing children/grandchildren/mother/sister etc etc. There are a lot of people out there who have less than perfect relationships with their families or who are struggling to conceive who don't need constant reminders of their pain. Do the people sharing the stuff have perfect lives or are they the ones living through social media?

My DS did the postcard one when he was about 7 and got quite a few back. Would never do it now!

I also hate the pictures of cancer sufferers/amputees etc with the request to type AMEN for a cure?? Really?? Is Facebook the new Lourdes/faith healer/God? I for one don't think so!

Many years ago I got one that involved sending a pair of knickers to the person on the top of the list.....
I was so amused by it that I sent the knickers and I did eventually receive a single pair in the post. With the wisdom of age I can see other less harmless reasons for that one though.

I'm always quite surprised at the person who falls for this, I.e, the person sending them to me. They get deleted at once. Some of them are full of cloying sentimentality too. I'd be ashamed to forward them even if I "believed" in them.

It was always the same person who forwarded this kind of rubbish to me and all her other 'friends'. I told her I didn't like it and I haven't heard from her again, obviously not a genuine friend.

I did the recipes one and still have a couple of recipes from France and the US in my collection from that.

But surely no one falls for them any more these days?

Clearly some people are entering their second childhood! What rubbish!

I had one ( email) last year from a friend I had thought was quite sensible, couldn't understand why she would go along with that rubbish ( it got deleted pdq) but perhaps people are more superstitious than we realise?

I did one for recipes when I was young and did get quite a few recipes. That was a harmless one, I thought.

As a teenager, I sometimes sent them on. I never received any of the promised goods and became disenchanted. I haven't had anything of this nature lately though. If I did it would go straight into the bin!

The last one I had ,not long ago either was a list with 5 names on it with "instructions" to send a paperback book to the top name and then send the list to 5 more people. In the fullness of time I would get dozens of books sent to me.
That also went in the bin but I told the friend who had sent it to me and she wasn't happy as she had been sent it by her DiL of whom she is slightly in awe.

I hate them too morethan2. The first chain letter I got was when I was about 10years old. It threatened that if I didn't send it on, then my parents would die soon. Of course when I read it I burst into tears and Mum and Dad asked what was wrong. They read the letter and immediately chucked it in the fire. A really good lesson to learn.

I do tell my friends not to forward that sort of rubbish to me but I'm sure some of them are too scared not to.

Oh, I get them as well, morethan2. It's just a load of cr.p and I can't be a.rsed with any of it!
I would have an awful job trying to find even one friend who didn't think I was daft for passing on such rubbish - and for that I'm very glad indeed!

Chain letters.
They often required sending postcards to the person at the top of the chain then forwarding it to maybe 5 people and in theory you would get squillions of postcards from all over the world.
Your mother would then probably have a fit at yet more clutter in your bedroom
More insidious was the sort that invited you to send a 5/- postal order and, blah, blah, blah you would get hundreds of not thousands of £££ back. As if!
Or you could just risk BAD LUCK if you broke the chain which could be scary if you were an impressionable teenager.

Chain letters.

In the 60'sthis type of stuff used to be in the form of a letter but I just can't remember what they were called. Mostly they were sent to teenagers it somtimes felt a bit like blackmail but I don't remember adults getting them. I'm racking what's left of my brain to to remember. Nope any idea?

I can't think of 12 amazing people - bah, humbug!!!
