Badenkate my friend's daughter changed the spelling of her name by simply writing it as Lucie rather than Lucy. I don't think she needed to use deed poll.

Mine is Geraldine. At least I was the only one in my class. I wanted to be Helen when I grew up.

I'm very happy with my first name, called after both grannies. It's very traditional. When I was young I would love to have been called Pam/Pamela. I was a huge fan of Enid Blyton and I think one of her schoolgirl heroines was a Pam.

I don't mind my name. Apparently I was to be called Siobhan, as our then parish priest had a sister of that name, and my mother heard the name spoken in his lilting Irish brogue. However, my granny intervened, and pointed out that it didn't sound so attractive in a broad West of Scotland accent!

I like my name when it's said, but I hate the spelling. It's Kathryn, but I've always wanred to be Catherine or Katherine - probably influenced by Anya Seton. It just seems more feminine and romantic

I hated my name as it is so unusual and old fashioned. I like most of the shortened versions of it. My granny, who was quite posh and autocratic, wanted me to be called Tracey which I think would have been worse now!

One of my grandmothers was called Isabella, pronounced Eyesabella. I would not have liked that name. I do not mind my name there do not appear to be too many of us around.

No, I have always disliked it. Athlough it is not unusual, it's not common and I rarely meet another one.

My grandmothers were a Kate and a Mary Ellen. As first born girl I always wondered why I was not named after one of them.

Try growing up with Coronation Street, and in the era of Hilda Ogden and you'll understand why I dislike my name. I tried calling myself by my middle name (Mary) when I first started dating. That was a bad idea as I didn't answer to it. I'm used to Hilda now, and it isn't so bad really. I was named after my grandad's sister.

Being born not long after a certain Royal Princess, there were 5 of us in my primary class, I have liked it better since living out of the UK. The Portugeuse always put an a on the end which I like. First question I asked DD when I heard DGS name was 'since when did her French/Belgian husband start watching Aussie cricket'.

It's not really the name itself, Jalima ... I am just not a Rosalind type!!! I would never have managed to live up to that!

My DD is Judith and she and I both love it. She will never allow it to be shortened at all.

I love my first name. When I was a child I only knew of one other. Now it has become quite fashionable. My Mum had two other names she liked. Judith and Melanie. But I am glad to have mine

My parents were Irish and my name is very Irish. I hated it in my very English senior school as no one else had my name. I just wanted to be Susan or Jacqueline or Linda. I love my name now and am proud of my Irish heritage.

My DM wanted to call me 'Muriel' after someone she admired who she thought was very pretty.
Thank goodness she changed her mind. Apologies to all the Muriels out there, it was just that I met said Muriel later in life and disliked her.

I think I was named after a character in The Archers although that's no reason to dislike it. I dislike it because my mother uses it with great dread-inducing effect! Shortening it doesn't help but adding an 'a' to the end does! That would have made all the difference! Given a choice I'd have chosen something like Laura or Emma or Annie but no one asked me, did they!! Lol!

I have always liked my name (Charlotte) and made sure that it never got shortened when I was at school,it wasn't popular then but it is now,specially with the newest Royal Princess being named after me

I wanted to be a Jenny. I hated my name (Pauline) and legally changed it when I was in my 40's, though not to Jenny! so no more 'Perils of Pauline'

I don't mind my name (Rhona) now although I didn't like it at all when I was young.
Apparently I might have been Rosalind (as we all got Gaelic names I'm not sure where that came from though!) which would have been so much worse!!!
