Naming cars

Yes, very!!!

That's strange coincidence Anya as we call our cars exactly the same.... Spooky eh?

My first car a mini Mayfair was called Lady Docker (who lived in Mayfair)

Then a Honda called Mabel, only had two lady owners, written off!

Then Honda CRV called Florence, not macho but liked the name.

Current car is aRenault Scenic called Betty after my late mum.

Love some of the names on here, especially The Rattler and The Pig, conjures up some hilarious images.

Yes, we name all our cars. We call it The Car.

I can only remember the name of our (well his) first car which was a mini with only one headlight so we called it Winky. As he couldn't drive when he first got it we used to sit in it and he'd reverse up and down the back alley - hence his reversing has always been spot on! It managed to get me to hospital when I went into labour with our first child but was only doing 2 mph due to some petrol blockage and we sadly had to part with it in 1971 for £17!

I've only ever named one of ours. We briefly owned a wreck that I still refer back to as the Exxon Valdez, partly because the registration number began XON, but mainly because it leaked oil everywhere.

Hubby always names his with a female name, his latest is Lucy. Mine always get male and the present one is called 'Rupy' short for Rupert. No idea why

We don't actually call our car anything, but as it has the letters YEV on the plate, for some reason it sounds a bit Hebraic to me so I always think of it as an Israeli!
When our elder daughter was little, we were talking about cars we liked and she told us she would like" one of those Flat Pandas"

Nanaand Grampy - Big Bertha was also the nickname of the locomotive that used, in the 50s, to be waiting at the bottom of the Lickey Incline to give trains extra power to get up. Sunday afternoons were quiet and the drive and fireman were happy to chat young train enthusiasts and even occasionally invite us into the cab. Happy memories!

Yes I knew there was a name for it - that's when people with names like Forrest become tree-surgeons, isn't it?
Can't help feeling though that parents who name their offspring after celebrities are perhaps setting themselves up for a lifetime of disappointment

Nominative determinism? Yes I think so either that or my parents were amazing at predicting how I'd turn out. Now turn left at the next junction and proceed forward to the cliff edge. (Don't worry -just practising!)

We don't name cars but our sat nav is called Jane.

Yes I do chat to Mildred be rude not to really. I sing to her at times too.

My old Vauxhall was called Pierce ( after Brosnan) . He was shiny black, fast and well groomed . We were in love !

My car is Billy the Bug - VW Beetle. DH has Florence, the colour is Firenze red. The voice on the sat nav is Florence!

I have 'Bruce' on my Tomtom too Marmight - I like his voice, so reassuring, compared to the rather supercilious tones of the female voice.

We have never named cars, but my father did in the 50s. We had Ronnie Rover, followed by Ollie Austin.
My dad was keen on cars and a few others, including the first Triumph Herald in Stockport, followed in quick succession and none of these had names, until he got the car of his dreams, a Saab, which he called Sven.
We couldn't quite get our tongues round the pronunciation though and it didn't catch on.

Although we have never named our cars, DH has been ridiculously fond of them. We've just got rid of his ancient Toyota Avensis which he had for 12 years and replaced it with a Mitsubishi ASX and the day a certain Aziz from Leeds came to drive the Avensis away, DH was quite inconsolable

I shall now have to try and think of a suitable Japanese sounding-name for the Mitsubishi
