Thankyou Hildajennij - I managed to find the site, I notice this poem is actually on the memorial plinth. The one I am trying to decipher is a small picture on the wall to the right of the memorial. I can only remember one line of it "all passion spent". Thanks for the details you sent - I will keep it with my T.E.L. collection.

grizelda - I was interested in your poem as I've read about it somewhere and remember that line about 'all passion spent'. If I find out or remember the rest I will let you know.

grizelda - I've just done a bit of digging on the internet. That line 'all passion spent' is from John Milton's 'Samson Agonistes'. If you google the name, you can easily find the poem. It is very long and not easy to read - perhaps what you saw was just a few lines taken from it?

Thank you NotTooOld - I don't think the poem on the wall is by Milton; I have a feeling it was by a more modern poet. Its so frustrating as I have the postcard and tried to magnify it, but no luck. Thanks again

'All Passion Spent' is also a book by Vita Sackville West. Sorry - I don't suppose that adds much to the discussion!
