Birthdays

This has felt like a very long lasting birthday - thank you xxx

We missed the post yesterday so I will have to collect the birthday parcel that my DD sent early tomorrow, before going to visit her! At least she can see me open it, though she did pay a lot to make sure it arrived!

I must admit I do love the spoiling!

Mine is in Mid Summer and OH's birthday and our Anniversary are all in the same week so we tend to have a meal out for all three together. Sometimes a meal out with OH or any family that are available, they usually all pop in at different times during the week but honestly I've never been big on birthdays and a surprise party would be my worst nightmare although this year I thought I might ask the kids and grands to a BBQ we had a health scare last year with OH and its made me want to lay down memories for the family.

I told everyone on my 65th, that's it, no more celebrations. But as the Grandchildren have got older they love a party. So I go along with it.

Shysal you sound a lot like me - 'if convenient', 'it's only another day after all'. Isn't the point about celebrating a birthday that it's more than just another day? I know we don't want to make a fuss but wouldn't it be nice if a fuss was made of us if only just that one day a year?

No work allowing, a breakfast start of bucks fizz and croissants. Evening: family gathered and cake. A highlight yesterday was a new 'first': a WattsApp video of my daughter with baby GS1 on her lap, looking very bemused while she sang 'Happy birthday to you ... nannio!' which we played again as everyone else sang in the evening. Just lovely!

Most of the time it's just another day - where it falls I am usually working as it's our annual audit although this year it was a week later so I did actually have the day off. We went to visit my son and his family at the weekend where I had a 'surprise' meal at a local restaurant. That was my ideal way to celebrate. I miss my mum coming round first thing on the morning with my card and present which she did every year until her late 80's when sadly she developed dementia and didn't even know who i was

Depends whether it is a working day for the family. Sometimes we have a meal on the day, or at the nearest week-end, either here, with them, or out, with a cake . I have my 70th coming up in June and have requested an afternoon tea out with close family. Their company is all I wish for really, but only if convenient, as they have such busy lives, it is only another day after all!
