Why did you join gransnet?

Can't remember now. I enjoy reading the discussions, and have often been pleased to learn that I'm not alone in thoughts, opinions, situations and ideas.

Joined through another thread and though I don't post much myself
think I've become addicted to the site! Open it almost every day and enjoy reading everyone's opinions and tips - learned a lot. Also been lucky enough to win a few books which I've enjoyed and passed on to friends telling them about the site.

It seemed a fun thing to do!

I have thought that too sometimes, but I'm sure people read them and nod their heads even if they don't reply. Or shake their heads in my case

DD suggested it when she had her first child and I'd bought a tablet and learned how to post.
I think she thought it'd keep me out of her hair out of mischief! She obviously had never studied GN!

Looked on mumsnet when had DGS. Found GN. Like vast age group it covers as in literally half a lifetime, and vast number of topics it covers.

If you don't post, no-one knows that you are there, Christingle and MaryEJB You'll just have to be brave and stick your heads above the parapet! It doesn't have to be on one of the more argumentative threads, there are gentler ones.

I agree with Christingle. Same here. But then I try not to be controversial so perhaps end up boring!

Christingle I think you just need to post more often.

I was looking for advice on any legal priorities we would for our only grandson following my sons divorce from his Mum. Advice given was really helpful, as it turns out everything has been sorted very amicability. Iam now a daily follower, although I must admit do not partake very often, I just like to read other people's views. Thanks GN for being there when I needed you.

I joined hoping for some banter and good debates on the threads. It also has a range of interesting articles that interest me. I have found however that its very different, any post I've ever made has been ignored and I have never been acknowledged. I find that quite odd but obviously there are certain members who are on here all day and have formed a little group. They should be mindful to include others.

Just to try it and see.

I wanted to join a forum for sharing ideas and just to chat. Thought I was too old for Mumsnet so had a look here. I liked the range of subjects, it's not just about grandchildren, in fact it's hardly about grandchildren at all.
I'm really enjoying it and there's a lot of good advice too.

Joined because was having problems with DIL, posted a query on Google and somehow found my way onto Gransnet where I got some helpful replies and was relieved to find I wasn't alone with this problem. As someone else said, Gransnet people seem bright and articulate and sparky and the occasional disagreements don't usually lead to too much acrimony. The topics covered are generally interesting, the only problem is you can spend too much time on here!

When I became a bit more computer literate my daughter encouraged me to join Gransnet. She is a member of mumsnet. I started by just doing the competitions and won some books which I found interesting although I'm not good at reviewing them. I won a beautiful car seat just when my youngest granddaughter arrived. That was 6 years ago. Thank you very much Gransnet. I enjoy reading posts and occasionally comment on a thread. I feel it keeps me in touch.

My son and his family live in New Zealand, but my granddaughter, only being three years of age, sees her other grandma every day and is shy to come on Skype; the very few times that my son does get in touch.

I think many of the previous posts have the same answer as myself. I've looked at a lot of sites out of curiosity and found them lacking, either because you find most of the posts were several years old, must have lost interest then, or, tbh, some of the posts are almost illiterate, not saying that I'm particularly clever or bright, just the fact that some comments, no matter how many times you read them, just don't make sense. Oh, one more, it's just really nice to be able to talk to others about such a variety of subjects that are of interest to us. I'm sure we're a mixed bunch, but we are like-minded in wanting to find out more. It's nice to be here, and almost like having a friend to give advice and possibly a good telling off if we need it!

I joined because I saw it when I was looking at something on Age UK and thought, that looks good, I'm a gran - or a Nanny in my case - and there are some really interesting topics (and people) on here but unfortunately I never seem to have much time to join in. I wish I did.

Like some others I joined via Mumsnet. I was very concerned about some problems in my daughter's pregnancy (my 6th grandchild but first for her) and googled to look for advice and hopefully reassurance. Then I think i followed a link to Gransnet and lurked for a while before joining then became hooked. BTW daughters baby is absolutely fine after all the worry and she thinks it's hilarious that I am on Gransnet!

Often found answers to my google queries re various things were on mumsnet. So when I saw there was a gran's equivalent, and I was about to be a gran, joining up was a no-brainer
