I thought the letter was really nicely put and well reasoned and that the head teacher was absolutely right to address the issue.

It is when these parents arrive back at the end of the school day and they are still wearing their pyjamas that you start to wonder what they are doing with their lives.
Self respect/discipline comes in to this as it is really difficult to inculcate either into children if parents are so lax in their own behaviour and the ramifications can be seen and felt in the school and the community.

I remember my mother once over sleeping and taking my father to the station in her dressing gown. It was raining and she felt obliged to stop and pick up his friends. When you think of my mother Margot of The Good Life comes to mind, so you can imagine how embarrassed she was.

If mum stays inside the car, and doesn't accompany the child to the school door, it shouldn't be too obvious what she's wearing. However, if she does venture through the school gates, she should be wearing day clothes. Imagine the child's embarrassment if other kids spotted it's mum in her PJs and slippers.

DD drove home from my house the other night (fifteen miles) in her pyjamas with her hair bleach on her hair. Too pushed for time to do it earlier in the evening. (Teacher )

I don't think they should go into school assemblies and the like still in pjs. (as in article)Just dropping of is ok in my book.

It's very trendy in the country to wear pyjama trousers tucked inside your posh Hunter wellies......but only when you're letting out the chickens.

I do remember driving DH to the station in pjs with a fleece on top (so you couldn't tell while I was sitting in the car). Cold sweat once because it stalled in front of the station and the damn thing nearly didn't start again after I had let him out!

I totally agree with the Headteacher. Not only was she asking parents to get dressed she was asking them to get washed for heaven's sake! I dont even put the bins out in my pyjamas ( poor dustmen dont want to see that). Seriously though, these parents are just plain lazy, and before anyone jumps in to defend, yes, I appreciate that there may be the very odd case of oversleeping a night shift or being up with a sick child, but is it really difficult to pull on a track suit? I came back from ASDA a couple of weeks ago, agog at seeing a woman in her dressing gown, slippers and pyjamas at the cash point. This was at midday. How humiliating for the children of these lazy disrespectful parents as they are dropped off by someone with mussed hair, pyjamas and presumably un brushed teeth. No excuse ever.

It's not for the head to tell parents what to wear but pride surely should stop the parents anyway, or anyone in fact who thinks it's ok to go out and about in their PJ's

To be fair there is a fine line between pyjamas and lounge wear. I have seen lots of pj's that could pass as joggers/lounge wear and vice versa. Perhaps the attention should be focussed on those parents who don't bother taking their children to school at all.

I'm sitting here imagining my grandmother's expression if I'd taken my kids to school wearing my pyjamas and slippers.

She'd have tutted so loudly her teeth would have fallen out.

I told DD about this also her Aunt had posted it on FB, she was shocked.
School uniforms are not usual here, and DGS started in September, he has some favourite jumpers for school and DD got comments from the teacher when he wore one two days running, he is 3 and likes to choose his own clothes.
She has also seen Mothers asked if they were ill when they were wearing pyjama trousers underneath long coats. Not worn again and not copied.
What kind of example are they showing to their children if they cannot manage their time well enough to put some clothes on.
Not talking full make-up and business garb, just normal day-to-day wear.

For God's sake! Do they really want to bring children up worrying neurotically about what they are wearing and whether they are fitting in with "the norm" all the time? Loosen up Missis! Stop being so small-mind.
