Eyebrows

I have seen lots of young girls with tattooed eyebrows and they don't look natural at all. Why do they want heavy black eyebrows - they are not at all flattering. There are groups of friends that all have the eyebrows and the same hairstyle too, shoulder length and straight. I cant tell them apart - they all look the same! They have their teeth whitened too, which is not necessary at their age. It is sad to see youngsters slavishly following the trend and not seeing themselves as individuals at all.
My own eyebrows have all but disappeared but the frames on my specs hides my brows anyway. It's not a problem. More important things to worry about.

Have a couple of friends (one mid 70's and the other in her mid 80's) who have permanent eyebrows in a pale grey shade. Perfectly shaped, they look so good when their faces are completely made up, but quite weird if you see them when they don't have the rest of their "war paint" on. They are "all eyebrows" and nothing else!

I remember speaking to a salesgirl about having them done when I was at the makeup counter a few years back. I was asking her advice about eyeshadow and she told me never to consider "permanent eyebrows" because, besides being expensive they nearly always look false and ageing unless you are prepared to spend the time to wear a full face of make up at all times!

That piece of advice had stayed with me, because it makes sense.

Aren't tattoos only suitable for those who've lost all (or very nearly all) of their eyebrows? I'd have thought tattoos with hairs sprouting would look odd...

But yes, it's a pity they can't give you a temporary, wash-off version of what the end result would be so you can make up your mind before committing yourself.

I won`t help if you have lost your eyebrows but I use eyelure eyebrow/lash dye to put the colour back as mine are faded (5.99) . It makes an enormous difference to have some definition back .
I think if I lost them I would use a brow pencil rather than tattoo as what happens if they don`t look right and you are stuck with them !

The beautician who does my HD brows also does permanent tattooed brows. Her brows, and people I have seen in her salon who have the permanent brows look amazing, very natural. It costs approx £400 and you will need an annual top up. I am considering having the procedure to top up my sparse brows. You will need to find a reputable beautician who does this and view some of her work.

My daughters have always remarked (laughed!) at my lack of eyebrows. I was very blonde as a child and photos of me then just show two raised lumps! They are still quite sparse and are naturally arched - that 'surprised' look of Fiona Bruce, but the ones I do possess have started growing very long and white - I have a horror of ending up with Denis Healey brows...

I did it. Four weeks before Christmas on the advice of my daughter. All I can say is, I would rather go through childbirth than this hideous pain for what is nothing more than cosmetic vanity. Draw them on. Save yourself £375 and the possibility of an assault charge, which was a very real prospect for me! Also the air turning blue when I spoke to my did!

I used to have brows like Liz Hurley and they grew like wild fire. I think they went southwards onto my chin since I have no problem cultivating a nice crop on that.

My son gave me the money to pay for semi-permanent eyebrows for my sixtieth birthday. My daughter and I were getting them done together but we struggled to find a date which suited us both and the money burned a hole right into the electric bill. Shame on me

I use an eyebrow pencil from Smashbox, or Benefit... they are both very good.. and experiment with shape. Sometimes I get it right and other times I don't, but as the eyebrows themselves diminish, I find my face is losing some of it's definition so I'll persevere until I pluck up the courage to go and get the permanent stuff done.

I think a good eyebrow shape is far more important than eye makeup.

Blimey - at what age does all these hairy places go bald? I'm knocking on a bit but still as hairy as an old goat have hair on brows, legs and elsewhere

Eyebrows: don't get them tattooed on, it looks weird. Instead try a product called Citylash which you can get on line. It is clear liquid which comes with a tiny brush. You just brush it on to the brow line - and lash line as well - every night. It takes seconds to do but a couple of months to show result. I am 87 and had hardly any brows left. Now they are back to normal and I even have very long lashes. Give it a go.

I lost all my hair from everywhere when having chemo eyebrows and lashes were last to go I felt losing brows was worse than losing hair on head cos they define face I used number7pencil they have come back straggly so use pencil and Avon brow gel

If you get a tattoo job on your eyebrows..... what about the eyebrow hair that still grows. Do you still have to have your eyebrows plucked/waxed/trimmed?

I have also had a problem with eyebrows and have had them done twice they last a good couple of years and cost about £250 but its worth every penny as if you swim or go out and in the hot weather your make up does not stay you feel more confident, it's quite painful and at first they seem a bit obvious but they soon fade , by the way I notice that Boots stores are doing stick on eyebrows they were about 19 pounds ,but I have yet to investigate them and see what they are like as when mine need redoing I would try them by the way I am quite an old lady !!!but still try to look o.k.

I have had my eyebrows "done" twice now. Very pleased with effect. They last approx. 3 years then you need to retouch. Just about to have them re-done again. They definitely help frame your face and no need to worry about pencils etc. - my advice - go for it!

Am I the only one with thick black eyebrows ?
Ive always had to pluck them. But now I dont see so clearly I pay to have them waxed. Also my chinny chin chin !

Yep Loobs, initially lost outside third of brows so had the thyroid check, but all within normal levels. It is reassuring that I am not alone with no eyebrows...thanks everyone for your helpful comments

I would gladly exchange my very thick brows for this problem. Plucking has always been a nightmare, I used to resort to Bonjela to numb the area. Then I discovered waxing, every so often I treat myself.

Eyebrows now a mean shade of white and unable to pluck due to eyesight problems - I wear glasses! Resolved this issue by popping down to the local beautician who reshapes my eyebrows as and when and they are dyed regularly.

Like tinaf1 I have tried Wunderbrow - also paying about £20 for it. I also use a much finer brush than the one supplied to apply it. I really like the product and it does stay on well - left it on overnight to see, once - however I am disappointed that the manufacturers don't make an ash blonde shade - the Blonde is far too yellowy for my skin and hair colour which is silver white. I have written to suggest an additional shade, but didnt get any response! Shame as if I could get it in a silver grey or ash blonde shade, I'd be a lifelong customer without a shadow of a doubt.

Not sure about the tattoo route - we need such delicate definition as we age that the photos I've seen of people who have had that done, rather put me off, as they look so severe and unnatural!

Wunderbrow really is great if one of the four colours suits you and you swap the brush for a finer one. I also use an old dry mascara wand to brush over the browline after application of the product as that not only tidies up the few actual hairs I have left, but seems to prevent the product being too thick.

Mine are disappearing - I read it was thyroid related (mine is underactive but managed with medication)

My eyebrows are sprouting out on my chin!! Yuk!!

Personally I wouldn't go for tattoos because I'd be worried about not liking them.
Certainly using an eyebrow pencil or asking a beautician for advice would be my first call.

I admired my hair stylist's brows and she recommended Bobbi Brown wax & powder. It comes in a little compact with two brushes: you feather in the wax then apply the compressed powder, and the effect is good, it doesn't run or smudge, BUT, you may find it difficult if your eyesight is bad - mine is, so I take my time.
