I think Elaine C Smith doing something on the tv tonight . I've got 10 for lunch tomorrow , so I'll be busy preparing for that ! Does anyone still scrub the old year's dirt out - I seem to remember my Mum doing that late afternoon on NYE ?

After a hectic Christmas, DH and I are more than happy to go to bed early after a nice meal and some bubbly. We are then ready to cope with whatever 2016 brings.

I shall be in bed, alone, with a good book and the radio on. The first text I shall have will be from my wonderful son. I will go to sleep when the fireworks let me.

Dressed as a Viking for a party in the village...currently searching local shops for a helmet with horns... but stone cold sober due to the stuff I'm taking for my slipped disc. Thus am on light duties only... so just a bit of gentle pillaging for me.

Moan away Luckygirl and I will join you. My H is a twin to yours and while I know he can't help it it doesn't help does it?
We will have a nice meal and in bed before 10pm as on every other night. I do wish everyone a Happy New Year and remember the anticipation of past years of a fresh start on Jan 1st but hey I am 78 now and things change (still 50 in my head though).

We will just be at home. OH would not fancy going out I know - he never does. I am beginning to feel like an 87 year old and not a 67 year old. It is a bit of a Catch 22 - he doesn't want to go anywhere or do anything (ever - daytime or evening) and I feel a bit bad if I leave him for long. He has PD of course, but was always a bit like this.

Sorry to moan - it's a bit of a sore point at the moment and I feel quite down about it - which makes me feel like a selfish pig as I do not have to tolerate the PD. A lose/lose situation.

He does not like any change in routine, however tiny; and holidays are a joke. I manage to persuade him to come to a cottage in West Wales each year, where a festival is taking place; but he just sits in the cottage while I go to all the concerts on my own.

OK, I know, I am being a moaning minnie - sorry!

Wot? Is it that time already?!!!

The DGSs are coming to stay tonight as DD and SiL are going to a big event. We'll have to go to bed quite early as the wee boys won't sleep in and we'll need our wits about us in the morning. Their mum and dad are joining us for a NewYears day lunch then taking the boys home. We'll then most likely flop! The boys are aged 4 and 2 so I think you'll understand our potential knackeredness!

Last year we spent it at home and thoroughly enjoyed it so will do the same tonight. appreciate the peace and quiet after a busy time. besides which the dog needs someone with him as he is like a jelly once the fireworks start.

When the children were small we lived in Devon and every New Years Day we used to pack a picnic and buckets, spades and wellingtons and spend the day on Bantham beach - lovely times.

Oh gosh! My favourite night of the year! Here in Northern California we'll have a group of friends round for a hearty dinner, mulled wine and games (done in the style of a Pub Pentathlon). At midnight, Scottish husband and I will endeavour to lead the Americans in Auld Lang Syne!! Brilliant!

We get together with a few neighbours all of whom have lived here for ages,there will be about 12 of us all together this year. Each brings a dish for a buffet and a bottle of bubbly. We have a chat, a meal and a quiz or some silly game. We only have to walk a few hundred yards. Someone usually brings a few fireworks for midnight. It's a nice event and completely different from Christmas. Some of us glam up, but it's completely optional. I really enjoy it.

DH and I meeting up with 20+ other goodfriends as we have done since kids were in primary school! In those days kids came too and were all supposed to be asleep in sleeping bags though in reality racing about whist us young parents enjoyed a meal and a few bottles. Over the years we have developed all sorts of 'traditions'! We take it in turn to host and the host allocates 'guests' a course to provide. We have :canape, hors d'ouvres, soup, fish, meat, vegetable, dessert, cheese, coffee & petit fours. We also each have to do a 'turn' known as inter-courses so the meal is spaced out ..start about 8;00 meat and veg b4 midnight the rest after! Often have fireworks at mid-night plus champagne and Auld Lang Syne. In our prime we stayed awake and moved seamlessly into breakfast! Now we usually disperse about 2:00 with some having snuck off sooner or snoozed at the table!

Hopefully DH and I will be sound asleep which is more than likely as the last of our family leave to go home in the morning. Lovely to have them all but it will take a while to recover!

Alea - hopefully Grace will still be sleepy from her anaesthetic, hope the surgery goes well and she manages to wag again.
Just thought, I expect DH will have a wee dram before turning in - he
calls it his anaesthetic - it might be just the thing for you too.
