A new one - Lebanon -. The problem, apart from the wine glass query is that the questionnaire assumes that what you drank in the last week is typical of what you drink every week.

The irony is that the less you drink, the less any given week is likely to be 'typical'. I have weeks when I do not drink at all. On Tuesday I went out for a celebration meal, that accounted for all my alcohol consumption last week. Over Christmas my drinking pattern will be completely different.

Another from Equatorial Guinea. I am currently enjoying a nice glass of Vouvray and intend to have a glass of red with my meal - it's Friday. Cheers! wine

Je suis Francaise aussi (but then I have been out for a meal twice this week).

Normally I would be from Timor-Leste

Where are all the wine quaffing Gransnetters hiding? From some of the posts on other threads it seems as though it's a much more popular pastime than seems evident on this thread...tchhmm

crun Fri 18-Dec-15 21:33:20

Jeez! Is that for real? 151 pints AND 187 glasses AND 253 shots? I don't think I've had 187 glasses of wine in my life, and I'm damn sure I haven't had 253 shorts. The last booze I had was at an aunts birthday bash in 2011.

"the questionnaire on the BBC link gives no indication of how big the 'glass of wine' is"

It does:

"It assumes that the average pint of beer is 5% alcohol by volume, that wine is typically 12% and served in 175ml glasses, and that spirits are 40% and served in single measures of 25ml."

Jordan for me.

"You drink like you're from Jordan, which is the joint 11th lightest-drinking country in the world. "

Yes but! I have not been out this week and I have been poorly for a couple of days.

Ana Fri 18-Dec-15 22:57:35

crun, that information isn't shown on the page I see when I click on the link.

It wasn't when I just went back to check either Ana, then I noticed you have to click "See how you compare" first. It's about two thirds of the way down.

I'm Italian too - but I never drink more than that at any time of the year. DH would come near Kuwait this week, but then would be Portuguese on what he drinks normally/next week - then he is ever so virtuous and has a dry January. He is terminally boring, droning on how much good it does to his liver. S.d that! tchgrin

Juggernaut Sat 19-Dec-15 10:05:57

Kuwait for me!

Rhonab Sat 19-Dec-15 10:16:38

Jordan for me based on the single drink I had yesterday when I was out for a pre-Christmas lunch with friends. Most weeks though I would get Kuwait! Apart from the occasional night out when I do partake of a few wee drinks and on holiday if they have lovely cocktails I don't drink at all.
I won't even be drinking over the festive week or so, just because we don't bother in the house. Husband might or might not have a couple of beers!
Might as well move to Kuwait in fact!!!!! ?????

GrandmaH Sat 19-Dec-15 10:54:27

Ooops France for me & I may have underestimated a bit too. I don't drink every day- usually only Fri, Sat & Sun evening- at home with DH. We share a bottle of wine & then may have a glass of spirit or sometimes 2. This week I have been out twice so it was a couple of glasses of wine more.
I thought that was about OK but maybe we should look to reduce the spirits in new year. Not much point now as we have a got it in the house for Christmas.
I don't get hangovers & I just really like the taste of it.

Vive la France!

KatyK Sat 19-Dec-15 12:22:46

Ana I admit to being one of the wine quaffing Gnetters. I enjoy a few glasses of wine each day. I am 66, fit, healthy (I've recently had full blood tests and my liver is in fine fettle), not overweight. I have also had a vast amount of stress in my life and if the drink police want to give me a lecture then they are welcome to do so! I have never drunk spirits or tasted a 'shot' but I do love my drop of white wine tchsmile

If it's a case of 'which calories ', chocolate wins over alcohol. I do enjoy a whisky, or dry sherry or a fizzy wine, but don't often have one. I do all the driving nowadays, so that eliminates social drinking, apart from in my own house. Late at night, after a bad day, when my poorly husband is in bed, it is sometimes tempting, but that could be a slippery slope!

Ana Sat 19-Dec-15 13:16:18

Good for you KatyK!

According to the quiz anyone who drinks 3 glasses of anything a day is way up there in the Belarus class, which seems strange to me...

(But of course it assumes you never have a day off! tchgrin)

Ana Sat 19-Dec-15 13:18:04

In a year, I meant...

Eloethan Sat 19-Dec-15 13:39:04

Italy: joint 86th heaviest in the world. I had 3 small glasses at a choir Christmas social over a whole evening and 1 large glass at our writing group's Christmas buffet. I don't see that as particularly excessive across a whole week and think it is silly anyway because I only drink if I go out for a meal or at social events. I expect the same applies to other people.

KatyK Sat 19-Dec-15 13:40:24

They keep moving the goalposts don't they? Many years ago my DH had a very stressful job and began suffering chest pain. After the usual tests found nothing wrong, his GP said it was stress and told him to 'relax in the evenings and have a couple of whiskies'. Needless to say, he didn't need telling twice, although he substituted the whisky for gin. tchgrin

angmhay Sat 19-Dec-15 16:36:47

France. So that's OK then!!

Luckygirl Sat 19-Dec-15 18:13:48

I'm a Kuwaiti too!

MaryXYX Sat 19-Dec-15 19:34:13

Assuming my regular drinking matches a week when I went to three Christmas parties I'm a moderately heavy drinker from Argentina.

Answering for a more normal week I'm a light drinker from Ghana.

Stansgran Sun 20-Dec-15 09:23:02

I daren't even think of testing.
