Diversity

Soontobe has made a point that there should be more diversity on GN.
What do others think?
It is a tricky one because first of all GN is open to all who choose to contribute, but obviously self-selecting to a degree just by the site name and target group.
It is also hard to establish the degree of diversity among members as we retain anonymity and are under no obligation to reveal or even refer to ethnic background, religious affiliation, physical or any other disability, political inclination ( well some people are very clear on that, but not necessarily all) education, age, colour or shoe size.
So who's to say?
Does it really matter?
tchconfused

"I'm telling on you" is often, in the playground, followed by a petulant stamp of the foot and a sharp exit. Have we now reached the exit stage? (I hope!)

Katek Sun 13-Dec-15 20:07:58

Truth at all costs then soon? Time to leave this thread alone.

Anniebach Sun 13-Dec-15 20:09:04

soon, I didn't understand your post to me , you ask for an apology? I have no problem in extending an apology if I have made an error or caused upset but I have not the foggiest what you are talking about. May I suggest you let all this go? For your own sake and everyone else

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 20:13:05

Hear, hear Katek.
Soontobe you could leave over <sighing> over your precious ego and manufactured virtual problems and look at real life.
Read what Kupari, Katek, AlieOxon, Maniac, Celebgran, Smileless and so many more I cannot name them all are writing about the Christmas they are facing and get over yourself.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 20:35:08

one of soon's very first posts, when she said how much she enjoyed winding people up.
I most certainly did not say that Maggiemaybe!
I think I know who did, and, to be fair, it wasn't soon grin

I won't say who!!

and, if there was a decent search facility, I would probably find that I have contradicted myself on many occasions.

NanKate Sun 13-Dec-15 20:38:24

Criteria for joining GN.

You must be human grin

Let's leave it at that.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 20:47:37

soon have you been at the Bristol Cream?

You can report me too if you like, I have been at the Tio Pepe

Maggiemaybe Sun 13-Dec-15 20:50:22

Well it looks as though some things can be wiped out of brains after all, soon, and I apologise wholeheartedly. I'm truly sorry if I offended you - I was obviously thinking of the wrong Gransnetter. Thanks, rosequartz for putting me right.

No doubt the Gransnet elves will have put my name on the naughty list this Christmas.

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 20:53:15

Thank you very much Maggiemaybe. Apology accepted. tchsmile

As posted on other thread:

We know this is obvious to most of you but just to clarify, yes, we are a public forum, but Gransnet does not keep anyone's details in a big black dossier for nefarious purposes.

There's loads of variety in opinion on GN, but if there's anything we can do to make the site more welcoming and inclusive, email us at contactus. We're all ears.

The search facility - <ahem> admittedly imperfect that it may be - is there to be helpful if people searching for info, not to check up on other users to catch them out. That's definitely not in the spirit of GN...

We know most of you have said as much earlier in the thread so apologies for repeating. Just wanted you all to know we are around...and wishing this thread would disappear tchwink

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 20:59:51

Short of getting everyone to fill in a questionnaire I can't see how you can make a forum more diverse.
All men short-lists?
Only open to grandparents?
Ethnic origin?
Jedi or C of E?

Nelliemoser Sun 13-Dec-15 21:01:57

My goodness Soon you have even got KateK usually one of our milder posters annoyed. Keep going like that and you will on your own on GN.

Elegran Sun 13-Dec-15 21:06:36

You could take out adverts in magazines likely to be read by diverse people and write articles about the site for those same mags, perhaps mentioning the threads about minorities and how GNers stood up for their rights (mostly!) Articles about groups of GNers meeting up together might reach some who feel isolated and not part of a group, but could find a place here to chat.

GillT57 Sun 13-Dec-15 21:09:48

Oh for heaven's sake soon get a life you silly woman. There are many on here facing difficult times at Xmas and your stupid, nasty games help nobody. Now go and be the Christian you purport to be and help someone and leave the rest of us grown ups to get on with real life. Report me if you like.

Galen Sun 13-Dec-15 21:15:05

She's got me so annoyed I'm going to resign from Gransnet!
Goodbye to all the very good, learned, delightful friends I've made here, but,
This constant selfrighteous illogical impossible proselytising has worn me down!
Goodbye!

Elrel Sun 13-Dec-15 21:16:56

I've not been on long but shall miss you, Galen.

Anya Sun 13-Dec-15 21:20:39

Goodness Galen you can't let someone like that drive you off the site. Just leave the thread and pour yourself a large wine and PM a friend to moan about 'bears of very little brain'.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 21:21:51

Ignore the thread Galen
Don't go!!

We will miss your 'pearls of wisdom' smile

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 21:23:03

Don't go Galen! Why should her juvenile posturing and troublemaking drive you out?
I admit my Sunday afternoon has not been enhanced by this twaddle. You know how GN "advertise" threads on their daily newsletter. It won't be any of these will it?
Some very disturbing things have come to light, not least an unhealthy obsession with personal details as revealed in the course of posting. I find it distasteful, intrusive, and absolutely one of the worst aspects of this internet site, normally a circle of friends and acquaintances, and a rich source of support, humour, advice, wisdom and empathy.
The serpent has certainly found its way into our Garden of Eden tchsad

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 21:25:07

No need to go on my account.
I wont take your choice away from you though.
I too will miss you.

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 21:26:00

I will stop posting till after noon tomorrow if that will help?

etheltbags1 Sun 13-Dec-15 21:26:06

What a lot of boring c...p, I have read this with interest, you have all had a go at each other and for what. Who cares if the posters are black/white or sky blue pink/lesbian/gay/fat or thin/transsexual/bi sexual or hetrosexual.
I don't care and nor should anyone else.

mcem Sun 13-Dec-15 21:27:43

You're not alone Galen. It's very wearing isn't it.
To think we might lose one of our most respected and popular posters because of her mindless drivel!
Perhaps GNHQ might advise us - if someone chooses to report not one specific post but an ongoing stream of inappropriate comments and unacceptable behaviour would an admonishment be handed out?
How many p*****-off posters does it take to have one nuisance advised that her attitudes are unacceptable? I assume of course that it would be kept on record ???

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 21:32:39

After noon, hmm
No comment.

ninathenana Sun 13-Dec-15 21:35:28

company, enjoyment, fun, interaction, diversion.
It must be just me then that thinks that's what chatting is tchconfused
