Floods!

My dss and his family live in Cumbria and the river 100 yards away has burst its banks. He has moved as much as possible upstairs and has fingers crossed that the next high tide does not force the water levels any further. His work is flooded and a car parked on the premises is in 4' of water.

This all sounds grim - I do hope all Gransnetters are able to keep dry.

I am hoping we will miss it - we have been flooded in the past and I do not wish to go there again. Fingers crossed! Looking at the Met Office flood warnings, I think that we are going to be OK.

Our route to Hexham is cut off by flooding. There is no way that DH will get to work at 04.00. They are going to assess the road conditions at 08.00. The rain is still falling and the wind is still blowing. We are in no danger however, as our house is on a hill. A burn flows at the bottom of the hill, I might take a photo in the morning. Watch this space.

Floods are devastating to people especially if their homes are hit, I feel so sorry for them.

I live in west Northumberland. At 03.30, on the way to work DH and I hit flood water across the A69. I reported it to the police. The car got water in the pistons. It was not a happy creature on the way home. Back at the flooded road, the police had arrived with a big pump and were directing the traffic through the water in single file. The disruption is still ongoing! Fortunately, we live on a hill so are perfectly fine although there must be a problem with the tiles on the roof as there is a damp patch on my living room ceiling.

Terrible weather. I am lucky to live on a hill.

Nature is a wondrous and beautiful thing and at the same time scary and worrying.

I was just looking at the BBC news on my iPad, shocked at the photos of Keswick and Kendal - we were up there a few weeks ago.
I too hope GNs in Cumbria and the North are safe.
