Arsey taxi drivers

I use taxis now regularly for shopping, Drs and hospital appts etc but use a local firm. Some of the drivers get out, put my shopping in the boot and carry it to my door. The others sit and let me struggle. My tip reflects just what they do. I haven't yet rung the company but feel I should.

I rarely use taxis, but I encounter them often on the road. What annoys me most about them here is the sheer bad driving manners that they all seem to exhibit. I live on a road that is easily wide enough for two cars to pass, but the taxis that arrive to either pick up or drop off ALWAYS stop in the middle of the road so that no other vehicle can pass by them. They could easily pull to one side or the other so that traffic could pass, but invariably they do not do so.

If taxi drivers consider themselves professional drivers then they're having a laugh as far as our local ones are concerned. Speed limits and using indicators are alien to them.
Some of them do help with shopping/luggage.

I always use the same firm, and have no problems with them at all, they`re always polite and helpful, and if the taxi is booked beforehand, they give a 10% discount on the fare.

I have to use taxis now I'm a widow. I have no other way (well it would take an hour on unreliable buses) to get to my gcs' school.

The drivers are charming and really helpful.

I try to use the bus whenever I can but if I have an important deadline I have no choice but to call a taxi.

I only use taxis to go to and from the station which is quite a short drive, but a long walk with a suitcase. Taxi drivers have to be licensed by the local authority and should have their identity displayed inside the vehicle. If you have cause to be really displeased, you can refer your complaint to the licensing committee.

I loved the title of this thread. It was the language a close friend, who died a few years ago used and suddenly for a few seconds her voice and inimitable personality were with me and alive again

An unintended consequence, but a lovely one.

I have been overcharged when on a night out,and one even accepted payment twice, we were in a group and my OH and my friends DH paid also we had hired a mini bus as a group of us were out...their manners and driving skills leave a lot to be desired they do not know how to use an indicator and cut other drivers(me) up on the roundabouts....my brother once was an arsey taxi driver but now is a reformed character ....
