I had to buy my own Dansette on HP with my meagre pocket money! Of course while I was paying if off I couldn't afford to buy any records to play on it...sad

You put us as teenagers to shame, thatbags - or at least me. I was not at all outdoorsy, although my stepmother would have loved me to be.

Hiking boots and a rucksack, paid for with money from my first school holiday job when I was fifteen, so that I could go youth hostelling in the Lake District with some friends.

I had a second hand red and cream Dansette for Christmas. I was 14 or 15.

Thinking back to dances in the 60's, the boys (men) always wore a smart suit and tie, even to bop around to pop music, seems bizarre now.

I had the dansette too. Wasn't it lovely. Listened to Lonnie Donegan, Elvis, Bill, and so on. Oh yes, Miners and Outdoor Girl. When did they go? Yardley was rather expensive I recall. Went dancing wearing that perfume in navy blue bottle. Night in Paris or something. Then " progressed" to Coty L'Aimant. Lovely days ! I really miss dancing as OH has never been interested, being an archetypical two left footer.

My first record player was a red and cream Dansette, and I had to wait two years to receive this costly present ( it wasn't a new one either!)

Portable record player (battery operated). I used to take it to the park with my 7 singles and be the envy of everyone else in my gang grin

My first strappy platform shoes too - they were blue, yellow and red suede and I loved them! My DM was convinced I'd break both ankles.

I also hankered for my first hot pants, in purple panne velvet, but I had to sew them myself (which of course enabled me to make them obscenely short). smile

My first ever perfume( cologne) was 4711.

I loved Yardley lipsticks! they had a wonderful scent, and I remember buying one in pale pink, and another in a lilac pink.

My first platform shoes, strappy and turquoise.
My first eye shadow, Yardley and purple. That was my only Yardley purchase as I then went onto Outdoor Girl and Miners. From Woolies of course.

I had a summer job in a café and saved all my wages for a trip to Oxford St and bought a black n white dogtooth check maxi coat and a navy jersey maxi dress with gold buttons down the front.Mum had refused to buy me a maxi.
I thought I was the bees knees smile being the first in my small town to have the latest trend.

Navy blue coat, my mum said it would fade!

Mine was a turquoise Perdio Picadilly transistor radio. I saved my newspaper round money for it. My life was transformed, as it had a single in-ear earphone and I could use it anywhere without my parents complaining about the music!

I realise it's a long time ago, but can anyone remember wanting (aching) for an item, and then buying it, as a teenager?Mine was a bluey green suede jacket, I saved for it by giving money every week to the small shop( who put the jacket away for me) until I had paid for it.It cost about £12.I wore that jacket until it was practically bald.
