Many years ago exdh and I moved into a cottage that needed a lot of work.

It had no heating, apart from a coal fired Parkray fire in the sitting room. It was so cold, we would huddle round the fire and take off our day time clothes and put on thick pyjamas or tracksuits and socks before going to bed.

For some reason, we only had 1 hot water bottle confused. One night ex dh went up first and took the hot water bottle with him. I stayed up to watch the end of a programme and then ventured upstairs.

Exdh was snoring gently, so I slipped between the covers and set out on a mission to gain possession of the hot water bottle! grin

Stretching out my sock covered feet, I located the item of my desire. It seemed to be under his feet. I have quite "dextrous" toes (I can pick up a pencil with them blush so I positioned them around the neck of the hot water bottle and exerted gentle pressure.

It didn't move hmm Thinking that he might be digging his heels into it to stop me stealing it having my turn, I tightened my grip and pulled harder.

Still nothing. I tried again, with the same result.

Eventually, risking an ingress of cold air, I lifted the duvet and peered beneath.

Only to find that I had my feet firmly clamped around the neck of a rather disgruntled looking Jack Russell!

I was tempted to call the thread "The woman who mistook her dog for a hot water bottle" grin

That would have given the ending away, though...

Good job the poor dog didn't yelp! That could have seriously messed with your head, phoenix...shock

This particular dog was very much a "heat seeking missile" grin She was known to get between the fender and the woodburner and lie there until she was panting and hot to the touch!

Haha, imagine if the dog had sunk it's teeth into your foot, Phoenix a hot water bottle that fights back! grin

Very unlikely roses she was a little softy! The chickens used to gang up on her when we went through the paddock!

The only thing better than a Jack Russell for warming up the bed is two Jack Russells grin

Or my cat Tara who hogs the hot water bottle like a heat seeking missile.

That poor little dog phoenix you are lucky that you did not receive a nip or two.
